I was told many professors are good at only one thing and do not have ordinary life skills. They could not function outside of the protected environment of school.

Then again, the college graduates designed both the bicycle you are riding and the roundabout you are riding on…

Envy is ugly. There’s a reason why it was classified as one of the seven deadly sins. Why not have a nice string of jokes sbout people who fsiled high school? We should be able to come up with quite a list of things they can’t do.

Different people are good at different things. I can solve differential equations, perform spherical trigonometry, and program computers, but don’t let me near a reciprocating engine, an electrical outlet, or a frying pan. My wife, an accomplished lawyer, can’t hold a tune to save her sweet little heart, and her favorite form of cooking is microwaving frozen pancakes. (We eat out a lot.)

I can’t speak for PHDs but as an aircraft engineer, I’ve learned that it is easy to be extremely knowledgeable in some things but rather clueless at others. Different parts of the brain control different things.

College grad her. Personally speaking, I never could figure out a 10-speed bike. So I just stuck with a gear that felt like the one-speed, fat-tired bike I used all over my steep-billed town! Now they’ve got automatic shifters. I’d try them!

They just started installing circles around our town over the last 10 years. Very easy to navigate as long as you keep your eyes open. What drives me nuts are the idiots that think you have to stop even when no one is coming.

I use to work with a state assistant attorney general who later was appointed judge. She was one of the most organized and intelligent people I ever knew, with a great memory. But no matter how often I showed her, she could not assemble a bank box to store documents. (The type we used involved a couple of folds and “locking” tabs into the slots. Just a “blind spot” in her skills, with no real explanation.)
