You want to see crazy? About an hour north of Flagstaff lies Tuba City, straddling the border between the Navajo and Hopi lands, divided there by Highway 160. The Hopi are Arizona based so, like the rest of our upstart state they do not observe DST. The Navajo are New Mexico based so they tinker with their clocks twice a year. During the summer there is an hour difference between the hardware store and the KFC in Tuba City.

It’s nice to have an extra hour of daylight at the end of the day. I don’t have to turn on the lights as early and can save on electricity. .. Oh! Wait! That means there is an extra hour of nighttime in the morning and I have to turn on the lights when I get up. ;-(

Where do they store all that saved daylight? Are there vast underground caverns full of it?

Only the government would cut one foot off the top of a blanket, sew it on to the bottom and tell you that the blanket is longer.

What about chickens in Arizona, which doesn’t have DST, who cross the road to visit their chicken friends in California, which does have DST? This messes up the visiting hours totally!

DST has confused my technology this year. For the first time in probably 10 years, my radio-controlled watch, which indicates it received the signal from the atomic clock last night, did not change to DST. My CPAP machine, which I turned on at 11:20 pm old time and off at 7:30 new time, shows that I used it for only 5 hours, 10 minutes. How did it calculate that???

At one time, you could drive through Indiana and change your clock (watch) 7 times.

You want to see crazy? It is when someone says “You want to see crazy?” and they don’t give you the chance to say “HELL NO!” before they go ahead and tell you ALL about it.

The livestock need to be tended to at the same time, but by kids who need to catch the school bus an hour earlier, or a spouse who has to leave for their town job an hour earlier. THAT’S why farmers, and others in some way tethered to objective reality, hate daylight saving time.

Then there’s Alaska, where they compressed the whole huge state from four time zones into two.
