Because ANY gun reform is EXACTLY the same thing as confiscation of all guns and abolition of the second amendment.
Any compilation of data on gun violence or research on the topic is also the same as confiscation of all guns and abolition of the second amendment — that’s why the NRA does not allow the government to collect any of that kind of data.

The minute any of that happens, OBAMA IS COMING TO TAKE YOUR GUNS!
In my opinion, gun deaths in this country are (of course) a problem. But the far greater problem is the fear of gun violence.
So which fear takes precedence?
The tiny population that believes any regulation of guns equals “They’re gonna take my guns away!” or the fear among people that aren’t as enamored with guns, that more unregulated guns will only stoke the fears of gun violence? (Especially among those in the “They’re gonna take my guns away!” group.)
@SAW okay here’s the thing that they’re thinking about “how much money can I get out of the NRA to not do anything about gun control?”. And now here’s what they’re praying for “please God make it a lot of money so that I can go on a nice long vacation to someplace really luxurious this year”. Does that answer your question about thoughts and prayers?
Jun 15, 2016 – There is more to the story than direct campaign contributions. Here are other ways the NRA – or similar political groups – can influence politics.
Liberals are calling for a discussion about our “culture”. I agree. We need to discuss why after 200 plus years of relative calm, we have seen the recent emergence of mass killings. With the exception of Whitman in 1966, the shootings didn’t start until the early 80’s.
The guns haven’t changed. The overwhelming majority of the shootings have been with handguns. Since the 1968 Gun Act, it has been more difficult, not less, to legally purchase a weapon. For several decades prior to 2000, the number of households with firearms was decreasing, not increasing.
So what is the problem? Easy. The culture of violence. Casual violence. Glorified. Spoon fed to us. Television. Movies. Video games.
Look at these numbers from the Cal State U Science Teaching Sourcebook.
Number of murders seen on TV by the time an average child finishes elementary school: 8,000 Number of violent acts seen on TV by age 18: 200,000
This doesn’t include movies or games, which offer much more graphic and shocking violence than is found on the airwaves.
Stop worrying about guns. Start paying attention to what your children are watching.
Andy’s bringing up that old ‘bugaboo’ television and violent games as an attempt at distraction, again – great idea, Andy, except the nation (Japan) that has the highest ‘consumption’ of violent games also has one of the world’s LOWEST rates of violent crime! Nice try, Andy, but no cigar! The Official Republican View? Oh, please God, ANYTHING but reality!
I have an acquaintance (not a friend) who insists that “more guns mean less violence”. I told him, “There were 220 murders last year (in 2005, the last time we saw him). How would adding more guns lower than number?” He got all in a huff and changed the subject.
The Second Amendment was enacted for two reasons: (1) to assure southern states that they could continue to use militias to capture escaped slaves and control slave population and (2) to prevent the US from forming a standing army.
.Those that say the second amendment is for people to challenge the US government are delusional. Your “arsenal” is like a pea-shooter compared to US military firepower.

I wish they’d worry more about regulating guns then regulating women’s bodies.

The NRA’s THEMES – {rhyme and coda}
{1} “With SEMI-automatics we’re quite okay,”
says the NRA.
“They’re fast enough as they spew and spray
into the innocent prey.”
{2} “The innocent CAN the mayhem allay
in the Second Amendment’s way
by simply self-arming, – to save the day
by denying the nuts their entree.”
… Coda:
On BOTH counts their thinking’s astray,
yet MANY their mouthings sway.

CATEGORY FIVE – {rhyme}
A situation which isn’t viable: -
- infatuation with perps unreliable
in governing our nation.
They’re instead the causation
that America now is classifiable
as a Category Five

COMPOSING A RHYME – {a rhyme}
{1} List some words which fit into rhyme
and which fit a potential theme.
{2} Imagine you’re strolling, your pace in time
with a jazz-drummer’s groovy scheme.
{3} Whether it’s silly or profoundly sublime,
just let your consciousness stream.
{4} Type it up, with some kind of title,
and Voila!- it’s ready for recital.

The only way to stop the murderous insanity of our ultra liberal gun laws is to stop voting for Republicans.

Republicans want more tax breaks for the rich.
The rich offshore their cash so they don’t have to pay taxes on it.

We’ve tried the unregulated gun method and it doesn’t appear to have worked to lessen the violence and more importantly the fear of such violence.
Time to try something else.
