Corporations are people. Money is speech. Slavery was good for the slaves. Losing the popular vote by 3+ million is a YUGE victory. And on and on. Orwell would be appalled.
Principal difference between this and 1984 was that, in the novel, everybody’s TV screens were always on and always tuned to the one and only government channel, so you could always see Big Brother, but at least it was only one way, them to you. Now, IRL, Big Brother really can always be watching you!
I seem to recall that the character Smith did mandatory exercises each morning, and one particular morning the exercise lady on the telescreen called him out personally for not bending deep enough to touch his toes. It was explained that one never knew when the government was actually watching you through the screen, but the capability was certainly there. Also, Smith made entries in his diary, as he thought safe from view, in a small alcove that was an unusual feature of his apartment. I could be wrong about that. I first read “1984” in a Reader’s Digest Condensed version, if you can believe it. The sex scenes were deleted, of course.
The old cliche’ is the definition of an honest politician: one who stays bought. I’m sure that Putin was surprised to find out that Trump decided (temporarily) NOT to stay bought. It might even be enough for ol’ Vlad to rend his garments (or at least take his shirt off!)
What’s REALLY dangerous is the fact that America has to deal with a deranged, insane and completely crazy national leader which could lead to a Nuclear War! And Dealing with Kim Jong Un is dangerous, too!

He’s working on it, AND he’s declared war at home on everything we’ve worked for in the last 70 years to actually MAKE America great.

The US establishment came up with an unending war back in 2001, the so-called “war on terror”.

YOU’RE FIRED!! – {a rhyme}
Trump’s at the helm
of our Ship of State,
steering his realm
to a ruinous fate,
HimSELF his own albatross.
“You’re FIRED!!” we should say to our boss.

DESOLATE DUMPS – {a rhyme and an image}
Desolate:
Here a bulldozer buried some trash,
and there some debris was burning to ash.
I said that “They’re gone, the good things we had.”
Stuff once good, now gone. It’s sad.
Desolate:
Here my whole nation is bulldozed by Trumpsters,
and there they burn what’s left in the dumpsters.
I say that “It’s going, the America we had.”
A nation once good, now going. It’s sad.

I think Orwell would think it would fit right in with 1984, not appalled.

Wonder who Trump will pick for today’s Two Minutes of Hate? He doesn’t seem to fixate on a single Emmanuel Goldstein.

The Reagan folks did indeed come up with using “Newspeak” and it WAS 1984.
