The Pilgrims invited the Natives, but just in case things got out of hand, they hired extra security.

A very awkward moment for the Chief when he was asked to carve the turkey and then realized that he forgot to bring his Henckels.

I’m no expert on clothes, but isn’t it a bit anachronistic to have all of those different outfits in one place?

I’m celebrating Thanksgiving the traditional way this year.

I’m having all the neighbors over, we’re gonna have a huge feast, and then I’ll kill them all and take their land.

2 URLs (copy each as one line):

    https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:The_First_Thanksgiving_cph.3g04961.jpg

has info and links that point to info, as well as showing the full ca. 1912-1915 painting (best viewed by Google Chrome – can automatically translate linked pages, if necessary; Other version has strip’s coloration, but less-cropped-than-the-strip image).

    https://americangallery.wordpress.com/category/ferris-jlg/

has a collection of works by this artist, who was named after another artist – who was unrelated, and only 39, in 1863, when this artist was born, and who has, so far, been used (http://www.gocomics.com/that-is-priceless/2016/09/15) 17 times.

Again, a larger strip image is shown by clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s blog entry for yesterday (November 22, 2016), accessible by the Check Out The Blog! box in the right hand column; so, I won’t point to it here.

Re: The armor: An interesting tidbit I picked up at an Albuquerque museum was that part of the attraction of America for the Conquistadors was that they could be “knights in shining armor” when their foes idn’t have muskets making it obsolete.

New Mexico was the huge area in upper Mexico that the US took from Mexico. Why we had that US-Mexican War 1846-1848 in the first place.

The indians kept the settlers from starving by showing them what foods to eat since they hadn’t the sense or skill to work it out for themselves (and some had the attitude that the servant class was to do that for them in any event).

News Flash: The Pilgrims had a celebration and thanked God after they finally discarded communal living (which was a disaster) and embraced free enterprise, which gave them an abundance of resources. The Indians/natives came by and brought a TON of food and the festivities lasted for days. I highly recommend that those interested in what really happened to listen to the Micheal Medved program tomorrow (9ET, 12PT, or stream live on KTTH.com) for a 3-hour recounting of what actually went on.
