When you pay taxes it’s like you set fire to the money.

A friend of mine tried to guilt me into giving to his favorite charity, and I wound up pointing out that if I did, effectively I’d just be paying to furnish the office of some executive in their multimillion-dollar headquarters.

As regards charities that spend significant amounts of offices, materiel, paid employees, etc. There’s at least one charity I know of where every penny given goes to those in need. I suspect there are more, if one is willing to search them out. The one I know is UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief. How do they manage to spend zero on offices, transport, salaries, etc.? They make use of existing structures, personnel, etc. that are already in place and paid for out of other UM church funds to distribute the items needed to individuals who need them. In other words, if you write a dedicated check for one hundred dollars to UMCOR, every cent of that one hundred goes to buy food, shelter, clothes, water purification facilities, medicine, school supplies, or whatever else is needed by the target community. None goes to administration or other supporting personnel or apparatus.

No. Having it taken for taxes is light setting it on fire.Except that setting it on fire would make the remaining money worth slightly more, where giving it to the government will make all the money worth slightly less.

If one can one should give to charity.

All you Chump morons who complain about taxes are idiots & maybe should collect some P.A.S. which is the least return you can get from your taxes .

Those who claim paying taxes is like burning their money should try living in a place with no functioning government, like Somalia. As for charity, for someone like Rat who is completely self-centered it might seem like burning money, but even Rat might indirectly benefit from not having lots of poor people dying on the streets around him.

Some great charities out there, some others that are only a front for pocket-lining. The Charity Navigator website is a good place to start telling which is which…checking out their 990 tax forms is even better because you can see how much these people pay themselves. Any “charity” that applies less than 50% of its revenue to what it claims to exist for (or pays megabucks to its top execs) doesn’t see a dime of my money.

I donate blood and I prefer that than giving money to charity because anybody can put a few coins into a tin. But not everybody can donate blood. xxx
