Dunno whatvit was, but if he kept winning at cards like he was, he stood a better chance of surviving the explosion then getting outta anywhere alive.

He should not quit his day job …. whatever that was ?

I don’t think he has a day job, but maybe she should go into business with that bank robber pair if they ever all get out of jail.

Still no clue as to what happened to Spicy and DJ nor confirmation of the death of the blowtorch guy. Perhaps tomorrow. Poor casino manager, no paramedics to attend to him. At least he is alive.Tracy gave X-ray Specs a new name — X-SPECS

It’s raining 1950s currency! That could be good for any nearby bystanders. They should technically be legal tender, though it might be hard to get a bank or merchant to accept them.Wikipedia:

United States coins and currency (including Federal reserve notes and circulating notes of Federal reserve banks and national banks) are legal tender for all debts, public charges, taxes and dues. Foreign gold or silver coins are not legal tender for debts. — 31 U.S.C. § 5103There is, however, no federal statute that a private business, a person, or an organization must accept currency or coins as for payment for goods and/or services. Private businesses are free to develop their own policies on whether or not to accept cash unless there is a State law which says otherwise. For example, a bus line may prohibit payment of fares in cents or dollar bills. In addition, movie theaters, convenience stores and gas stations may refuse to accept large denomination currency (usually notes above $20) as a matter of policy.

I am surprised the X-ray goggles penetrated that vault so well.

Well, they apparently penetrated the wall to identify the location of the vault but didn’t penetrate inside the vault.

The only plausible reason is he had the glasses set to look through walls but not set to look into the safe.

Could it be that he did see it, but shut up about it in spite of the risk, in order to get out of a lifetime in service of gangsters?

Specs was ordered to find the hidden safe and he did so. We don’t know the particulars of the ways of the “wonder goggles.” He may well have needed closer inspection to gaze inside the vault. No one anticipated the possibility that Ferdinand bobby-trapped the safe. Too late was the lesson learned. Today we see another survivor of the blast, dazed and confused. Seems the blast was not as deadly as it appeared on Saturday.

Specs was asked to find the safe and he did that. He wasn’t asked to look at what’s inside the safe so there’s no reason for him to look. Didn’t he admit that he is…. And then he was in a hurry to form his own gang.

On the other hand, maybe the late Ferdinand wanted to prove you CAN take it with you…

Time goes on, mercifully! Was wondering who the last “good guy” was who kicked the bucket? Me thinks it’s long overdue! Who would you knock off if you could blackmail Joe and Mike? Sorry but I would allow Junior to die heroically! Imagine all the different storylines that would open.

Very long time lurker and lover of this strip and the wonderful commenters here. Finally decided to sign up to comment.

Two things: I’m pretty sure Specs stopped looking once he found the vault, thus he never looked inside to see any booby-traps. The bad guys knew there was a fortune inside, which was why they didn’t ask Specs to see if anything was in there (unlike infamous Geraldo). Why the bad guys didn’t think a hoard of money wouldn’t be booby-trapped is a legit question though.

    2. The biggest problem they would have had with old currency is that the paper was changed in 1950. This means that all those pens you see people use in stores to check for counterfeit money will fail. I’d never known that until I got one at a store I was working for. Had to walk across the street to the bank the customer had just gotten it from to get informed. Then, had it happen to me with a birthday gift. Odd to see 1950 $100 bills still floating around.

I do want to thank all of the people on here that make this a very lively and enjoyable board to read. May Vista Bill make it to 100!

The continuing cash-rain shows clearly that very little time has passed since the explosion. But Tracy and Wunbrow seem oddly nonchalant among the wounded and/or dead. Only Ivanov seems to have engaged in anything remotely resembling emergency aid, and he in truth seemed more interested in the specs than in “X-Specs”….
