It probably doesn’t even leave a bad taste in your mouth, since there was no taste here, to begin with!!! – Don’t even think the hipster crowds (or that couple that went to Haverty’s) would come here…. – LOL, “Glop #53” by Greg, in the middle panel, on display!!! And “Ow!” by Bob… yeah, appropriate title, ha ha ha!!!

this reminds me of ‘The In-laws’ Staring Michael Douglas. The bride wants six people on the beach… nice, simple and memorable… Romantic even. Her dad goes all out for the big wing ding. His plans get ruined by the Groom’s father who is a secret agent trying to work and do the wedding thing at the same time… they end up after all of the hassle with six people on the beach… I loved it and my wife loved it… great chick flick.

I’ve heard the same rumors, but I also hear (from the younger members of my family) that kids these days aren’t joining churches, temples, synagogues, etc., that they feel ‘spiritual’, but not necessarily connected to organized religion.-I think most churches and temples still want you to join if you’re going to have a ceremony in their building…

Somehow, I don’t think that we will see a church wedding……too controversial? I did see one church in this strip…July 4th, the “For whom the bell tolls” day when Gunther told Rosa that he would go to Peru with her. But, how about that gallery lady, all legs and a chest area that could only hold baby sized lungs? Aw, we know they’ll get hitched in a fire station with an Elvis impersonator doing the honors.

Goody Goodies like these two will sometimes abandon and take a drink without any idea how to temper that, The next step is pre marriage sex. It is far better to be taught how to drink and learn limitations. I was a fireman and we had many cook-outs where they had to park a beer delivery truck behind the firehouse, That was because we always had a big crowd and it all went to charity like burn victims.

A firehouse is a structure that contains storage space for the fire equipment (trucks, EMS vehicles, lockers with gear that firefighters wear, etc. There is also usually a space where the firefighters on duty stay for their 2 or 3 day shifts; sleeping areas, restrooms and a break room for meals.) -The front of the firehouse is where the driveway is, and most of the rolling stock (trucks, EMS vehicles) use that driveway to exit to a call.-The rear portion of a firehouse is often where parking spaces are located. Sometimes there might also be a separate garage for repairing the rolling stock. Many jurisdictions consolidate maintenance for all rolling stock in one central area, though, instead of requiring each department to provide a space to work on equipment.-If the parking area behind a fire station is used as a wedding site, it would not interfere in any way with the mission of the firehouse. If the living quarters of the firefighters (break room) is used for a wedding, it would not interfere with the mission of a firehouse.-Presumably, the wedding would not be scheduled for a time that either Toni or Brad are on duty.

Many commenting here seem to know only one type of fire department. Some of us in smaller towns and cities still have volunteer or part paid, part volunteer fire departments.

Precisely. And the stations in my town are often used for that purpose. It’s only very large cities (i.e. that have a fully paid fire dept.) where it’s an issue. I believe, in fact, that this is one of the things that makes a “city” a “city.” Paid fire department and/or “in house” paid sanitation (i.e. not “contracted”). Most municipalities (except the very small ones) have paid Police, albeit not very large departments. But I’ve never seen a municipality with paid fire that was not incorporated as a “city.”

-A firehouse and its land are paid for by taxpayers; therefore, any events on its grounds should be for public events only-A significant number of court cases and case law suggest that your view of how public lands and buildings should be used is incorrect. Most recent spate of court cases involve the use, by charities or individuals, of public parks to stage feedings for the homeless. Each time a city or county attempts to stop these group feedings, the charity goes to court and courts order that the use be allowed, as the land is ‘public’.-The City of Fort Lauderdale, during the time that I worked there, lost several court cases involving the removal of homeless people from parks, until the City decided that all parks would officially close at sundown unless a city sanctioned event was occurring. The courts allowed that, as it applied to everyone. But otherwise, the ruling was that public land was for the public, even if those who were using it were sleeping on benches and scaring away kids who might play in the park.- I was a witness at a City Hall wedding held at the City Hall of Deerfield Beach back in 1981, conducted by the City Clerk during daytime hours. The City Clerk was also a notary, so was legally able to marry a couple. It was not a lengthy wedding, but was during working hours so you would consider it a waste of tax payer dollars even though the couple did pay for the Clerk’s services. (They decorated the area themselves.)-Time is, indeed, everything when fighting fires, which is why on-duty firefighters who are not actively involved with a fire are involved with training, or repairing equipment or carrying out other station area responsibilities (including buying their own food and cooking their own meals.)

People who like to complain about wasted tax dollars frequently speculate that firefighters sit around playing poker when they aren’t fighting fires. Those who aren’t involved in repairing equipment and training are involved in reviewing site plans and building plans to make sure they comply with fire code, or inspecting partly constructed buildings, or visiting group housing and nursing homes to make certain that fire exits aren’t blocked, sprinklers work and fire alarms are operational. -It’s just as unlikely that an on-duty crew would have time to watch a wedding as it is that they have time sit around and play poker.

I see the comments about using a public place for a wedding. First, Brad and Toni should be married at a church. Second, many towns have old firehouses that have been converted to restaurants (Hutchinson, Kansas has one like that). That’s where the reception could be. But looks like readers are predicting that “TJ’s Warehouse” will be the place for the reception.

Buildings are repurposed all the time-You are talking at cross purposes. What was approved, according to a required building code and zoning, is what a structure is and remains unless structural changes are made to bring it into compliance with the codes for the new purpose. A warehouse, for example, is not expected to have large-scale occupancy by people, so it has different building codes to meet.-You may recall Toni’s comment about ‘bringing the building up to fire code’. With something intended for occupancy by a large number of people, certain types of fire-retardant materials are needed, ceilings need to be segmented to retain fire in one area instead of allowing it to spread, exits and entrances need to meet certain requirements.-For a building meant primarily for storage, the code requirements are not the same. Escape of a large number of people from a fire would not be expected in a building used only to store goods.-If you use a vacant warehouse for a temporary use, like putting on a play, you may be able to get Special Exception permits. But if the intent is to use a warehouse permanently as some other use, it must be brought up to code first.-These are life safety issues, not just what a building is called…

Years ago, towards the back of the National Inquirer and several other ‘rags’, there used to be a small ad wherein you sent them $3 and you could become an ordained minister. It didn’t give any specifics.

I guess it’s then a matter of state laws/regs as to what is “acceptable” for an ordained clergy member.

I forgot something. Venues that draw crowds can be called “warehouses” but be used for purposes other than that. – In downtown Baltimore, there was a power plant that was big in the area. Once the harbor district got revitalized, the building was still known as “the Power Plant” and a block down from it was another “Power Plant” (for music concerts). The original “Power Plant” was divided into an ESPN sports bar and arcade and restaurant, and ssome other attractions. but it’s still known (officially called) the Power Plant…
