I was having a “Hoosiers” moment in panel three. That is exactly what Gene Hackman did at the big arena, measuring the height of the backboards to show his team they are playing on the same size court (field) as they had all season.

My heart whispers ‘They will win’, but my logic debates it in a louder voice. Just building up a defense in case the writers continue their approach to making us donkeys chasing the carrot on the end of the stick.

“…and that’s ours!” What? Did they replace the turf at the stadium with the turf from Milford? How can he claim the whole field as theirs?So Gil’s plan to “settle them down” involves emphasizing that no Milford team has ever won the title. Nothing like adding pressure.

Since Gil played and wrestled at State U., this is a homecoming of sorts. Is that a pre game walk through in panel 3? Who is the opponent, Shaw? Will Koy Nash, Shimura and Sign Man show up via the pep bus? Will Dr. and Mrs. Lamb attend the game? So many questions, so few panels.

Hopefully the writers will have several alumni at the game, it would be cool to show Wally Lamb (but not Bitsy since she’s in the sweatshop in Indonesia), some of the ex-players, STEVE LUHM, Wildcat Maris, etc.I wonder if someone somewhere has the complete record of Milford sports. Each year for football, basketball, baseball, what their record was (probably rare to even know) or approximately how they ended up, if the made the playoffs/playdowns, how far they got, etc. You could figure some of that out in the archives here, but only back to 2001. 50 years? Considering the ‘Boston Patriots’ were only formed in 1960 when the AFL came into existence that hardly seems possible.

Over 10 years ago, MHS made a deep run in the state playdowns and stayed in Motel 7 in Central City. I’m assuming they’re staying there again. Economy class all the way so Throp’s salary as AD isn’t threatened.
