As usual, Joe’s portrayal of classic characters is spot-on yet rendered in his own distinctive style. His use of profiles keeps alive the Gould tradition and flavor.
Joe has taken the features of Moon Maid created by Gould and has translated it to his style perfectly. The turned-up nose, the pointed chin…Although the eyes are not as rounded as in Gould’s illustrations, they still beautifully maintain an alien quality. The mouth shape is rendered perfectly.
I posted the other day about noticing a similarity between the pupils of Moon Maid’s eyes and the pupils of Dr. Sail’s eyes. Today, I notice it again. Mysta is shown as having white pupils in the final panel and Sail is shown with white pupils two panels earlier. Knowing so much about Moon phsyiology, it makes me wonder what connection he has to Moon people.
Great Sunday page. We may not know if this Mysta is real or not, but Joe Staton is the real deal!
Delicious Sunday. Wow, I don’t know what to say. Mysta looks great from the tips of her high heeled boots to the top of her horns. Junior doesn’t stand a chance against this alien woman.
I don’t normally comment on Sundays (too busy) but I think it worth noting: If this Mysta is a “clone” (or any other fake), the story will implode immediately upon discovery of the charade, if not sooner!
The lawyers in the room have made it clear that even for the “real” Mysta, the doors are pretty much closed.
The only door open to a fake or cloned Mysta is likely a new Tracy villain!
(I’d much rather the apparently displaced Moon Governor take over that role)
Granted, my point of view is the examination of the question, what becomes of the person accidentally declared dead, through no fault of her own.
Of course, a fake or cloned Mysta is not a person accidentally declared dead. No matter how much “memory” they have stuffed into her. That would be a fake, too.
Still wondering why, if this moon maid is a clone, Ghote would want to implant Mysta’s “memories” in her. Surely, this would aid those challenging the veracity of his clone – similar to what happened with Mumbles – and very much likely why most of us don’t believe she is a clone, either.

Retik and Stellaluna’s faces are in the light, while Sail and Ghote are shrouded in shadows. Mysta’s double image showcases her beauty with the exceptional art we have come to expect from Mr. Staton. The ellipsis emphasize that Mysta’s declaration that she looks “perfect” signifies not vanity, but relief and surprise. It is Sail’s double image that gives me pause. I sense questionable character and dubious motives. Like others, I haven’t been this captivated by Tracy since way back in my grade school days.Hat’s off once again to the wonderful work of Team Tracy.
Got to love how this story keeps building.And Joe’s art! I especially like the second and third panels, with the placement of characters reflecting the fact they all have different motives, with Ghote (like his motives) deep in the shadows,And of course, the unveiling. RT is somehow considered one of the DT posters clique here. “Yes” is his thing, as Pequod’s thing is to post poems and VB’s thing is to say “good morning to all”. But these two are alright, imho. Anyway, the clique tolerates RT’s nonsensical posts, and there seems to be nothing anyone can do to stop their annoying presence here.
NightShade09: I agree. The original Moon Maid did look, for lack of a better word, creepy. I don’t know where Mike and Joe are taking this story; as previously said, I’m hoping for at least some exploration of the issue of people declared legally dead – by mistake – a storyline that would immediately evaporate should this Mysta turn out to be a clone or any other kind of fake. (And I do consider a clone Mysta to be just as fake as any other “possibility” – such as Notta Chin Chillar or a stray Moon person)
I note that morrow likes to chime in fairly frequently with Utah jokes. To my knowledge, Utah is the only state with monogamy as part of its constitution – they had to, or the others were never going to admit Utah as a state.
On the other hand, perhaps the whole Mysta mystery may be to ease both Junior and Sparkle out of the main storyline for a while. Previously, I speculated that Sparkle may be “easing” out of the picture, what with her new singing career that likely will require some possibly extensive touring. Now, I’m guessing that perhaps Junior will join her.
The Moon Maid we remember may have been headstrong and naïve, equipped with powers to get whatever she wants; nevertheless, homewrecker did not appear to be one of her attributes.
Oh, yes. While I still have no use for Ghote, my feelings have softened a bit toward Sail. I like the speculation that he is, in fact, another Moon person, though events from last Christmas would seem to have taken that possibility out – along with Retik and Stellaluna’s planned trip to the moon.
Dangling references. For a moment, I thought complaints about RT had to do with Ray Toler, who writes rather good comments. In fact, the references were to ReneTray. And yes, the dozen or so “yes” comments were annoying.
