I can’t find anything on his WW I service, but one of the medals appears to be for “meritorious service by an officer in the face of the enemy.” The litle I can find suggests he was involved in the White Teror that folowed the destruction of Bela Kun’s government. In 1938 he was the Hungarian Defence Minister and Army Chief of Staff. He was pro-German, and by the end of WW II he was a minister in Hungary’s quisling government. After the war he was sentenced to death, evidently for war crimes, including involvement in the Holocaust. That sentence was commuted to life in prison, where he died in 1952 at the age of seventy.

As an inveterate collector of roosters and chickens, I was delighted to see the animated chicken dance today. And, if I can figure it out, I’m hoping to borrow it for a Halloween avatar.

Your dancing chicken brought back a strange memory. Decades ago, perhaps even 50 years or more, I recall seeing a machine similar to the one in your picture at an amusement park or county fair of some sort. You’d put your nickel in the machine, and a chicken would come out and dance in exchange for a few pellets of feed. Hunting around, I discovered that the picture on Frog Blog is a screen capture from Stroszek, an odd 1977 film; the relevant clip can be seen here. Never having seen that film, I can attest to the fact that such machines existed and were not simply an invention for that particular movie.
Thunderball is also the movie whose openimg credits were lost on me because I was fascinated with the nude silhouettes of women swimming. Most effective.
Mmmmmmm erwtensnert .. the picture, combined with the dropping temperatures, call upon something deep in my soul .. oh the craving starts!Better think of crispy baguettes or something. Drink jasmine tea, buy some artisan cheeses.I’m not ready for hibernation yet!
Ouch! Those little buggers hurt. Teresa to add to margueritem’s advice, use a little Epsom salt in the water to draw it out. Using antibacterial soap on the areas with issues once a day helps cut down on any recurring problems.
Teresa, So that weird mask the kid is wearing on the blog reminded me that I’ve been meaning to bring your attention to a certain video. The song is beautiful, the video is bizarrely wonderful.
