Shutting down Facebook and Twitter wouldn’t result in news from “reputable” sources. Most of those once considered reputable now wouldn’t be able to tell you what that word meant.

Our local newspaper was one of the best of the middle major class in the mid-Atlantic regions for over a century. Ran 2 separate daily issues under different names with completely separate staffs and different editorial policies every day. Then, in the 80’ they consolidated and lost some of the best. In the 90’ it was bought by one of the national conglomerates owned by a bazillionaire with no experience whatsoever, and became fit for litter boxes and the bottoms of bird cages.

Sad but it was/is the trend. Now all it needs is a private equity group to buy it and bury it. Won’t be long.

Reputable news sources would be nice, but actual paper media is such a waste. To keep a newspaper alive, it became 75% ads and 25% content. Even then, the content was questionable. Also, it would be difficult to participate in an enjoyable comment thread on printed comic pages. It would become like playing chess by mail.

The Internet has affected “established, reliable news sources,” too. Go to the NY Times, LA Times, Chicago Tribune, Washington Post and you’’ll see stenography and click-bait.

The NY Times had an article yesterday about why the polls were so off for the midterms. It’s because they just included all polls without checking a poll’s methodology or reliability. Bad poll=good poll. Both sides.

Hint: If your sources of information always agree with you then the probability of them being bogus is incredibly high. Want actual facts? Then fact check and bias check and vet your sources. Yes there are media a “research” outlets that exist only to keep their sponsors opinions and wallets afloat above any others. There are other and better options easily found elsewhere. Do your homework. The internet still makes that a lot easier and faster than it used to be. Want help with that? Ask a librarian. That is why they are there. But if you do not vet your sources then you are simply an idiot and a sucker for failing to do so

This rules out most “news media” since they are activist Democrats who said Hunter’s laptop emails were “Russian disinformation.”] Fetterman proves that Democrats will vote for ANY Democrat even AFTER they have seen him try to talk, and fail!

Newspapers and other media outlets are not in the business of disseminating news. They are in the business of delivering eyeballs to advertisements. News and other content is mere bait.

This leads to the most effective bait being published. That doesn’t comport well with facts or reality.

It also leads to advertisers moving to the most effective media. Which they have determined is online.

In a market context, the news will be execrable until the incentives change.

When was there EVER reliable, vetted, reputable news? Even the venerable giants – John Cameron Swayze, Cronkite, Chet Huntley, David Brinkley etc. were biased. They felt it was their duty to slant the news to support their Leftist agenda. They felt they had no duty to present both sides of the news.

Now Twitter shutting down I can buy. Musk reportedly is the only person to ever lose $200B leaving him worth $137B and he’s still hemorrhaging money. Those who still have a job at Twitter need to bring their own TP. That pretty much tells you that Musk and Twitter are both in the toilet. Happy New Year

Where does Wiley Miller find those reliable news sources for which there are vetted and trustworthy reporters? Neither what we call the Main Stream Media or their employees fit the description. That entire group of sycophants have shown they will ignore critical events, lie about obvious events, ignore government and other official malfeasance, and use their forums to smear anyone who dares to oppose the Marxist agenda.

2023 will be the year in US news when schadenfreude is finally on the menu. Trump is already looking visibly panicked, the Republican party at large is recognizing his influence as damaging to their future, and the extreme right wing loons will be hard at work repeatedly hoisting that anchor on their party. My guess is that Trump will start having a fire sale of his properties, while claiming to have an abundance of money without the property being sold off.

It’s odd, but I live in a small town with just a weekly newspaper, I have no cell coverage, nor do I even OWN a cell phone, I’m not on Twitter or Facebook, and I only have a land line for the DSL on my computer… and I get along JUST FINE from day to day, EVEN WHILE NOT KNOWING what such-and-such “celebrity” had for Breakfast today, or what the latest nonsense coming from Mar-A-Lardo happens to be. Try turning OFF your devices for 24 hours, and I bet you will immediately feel your blood pressure drop several points, and then you will realize that you don’t NEED to be totally connected to EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE WORLD 24/7. By the way… I also haven’t had Television reception for over 20 years, and I don’t miss it!

I spend a little time each morning scanning the headlines on-line, and reading the comics, and I’m good for the rest of the day!
