It’s locally approximately flat. And that agrees with what her beady little eyes tell her.

All they have to do is state that something the other side [party] promotes is bad, without any background or reasoning, and keep repeating that it is bad, and the masses will believe it without examination..So sad. The target is the other side, and they would rather take that down than do anything good for the people.

I used to belong to the FES. To most members, and to me, the Society is a joke, a lark. I seem to recall the FES protest. I always thought it was very tongue-in-cheek.

Back in the glorious days before the internet and cell phones, 90% of the stupid things people said never went further than into the ears of the people around them. (The remaining 10% were on TV or the Congressional record.)Now, any moron’s brain droppings can flash around the world at the speed of light, looking to find a home in similar weak minds.Such is the word of B.o.B. (and Donald Trump, who would Tweet his State of the Union addresses).

According to Terry Pratchett (RIP!) it is a flat disk balanced on the back for four elephants, balanced on the back of a giant turtle!

I lived in Missouri, literally on the KS state line (State Line Rd., actually). Looking out across Kansas, one could be convinced of the flatitude of the planet.I know it’s an oblate spheroid, but still.

I just read a book for an international business course called, “The World is Flat.” It’s more of a global economics thing than Danae-centric though. Makes me wonder where this is headed.

Not completely flat. It just needs a little air. About 14 PSI should do it.

Why do people still believe that Terry Pratchett conceived of the disc / elephant / turtle thing. It is definitely Hindu. I have pictures of it printed long before Pratchett started writing.

I’m all for heterodoxy when it serves a purpose, such as questioning the status quo. But spouting off ideas that mountains of empirical data can prove false is plain attention-grabbing, an adult’s temper tantrum. The Church of Satan and Temple of Set as hardcore atheists who inspire members to think for themselves, that I support. Groups that throw hissy fits whenever their views are proven false are only worthy of laughter.

Anishnabee people (Chippewa/Ojibwa), believe it was a Turtle that rose out of the water with mud on its back….Mackinac Island was that turtle. It is still kinda like their Mecca, a sacred place…..
