Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for June 01, 2012

Transcript:
Pig: I got a German shepherd. Goat: Hey, good for you, Pig. Is he house-trained? Pig: Are you house-trained? German Shepherd: Ja. Pig: That was probably insulting.
Those non-anthropomorphic sheep don’t look like Chuckie at all! (Hands up if you know what I’m talking about.)÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷Could Sweet Fanny be somewhere in that herd?
O_Ô Oh, good grief. If Pig said golden retriever, you’d get a mining prospector. Great Dane, someone from Copenhagen who’s as tall as Shawn Bradley & Yao Ming (both 7’6“).
Too bad the strip’s missing the standard “punish Pastis for the bad pun” panel. Idea for a fourth panel: Rat stands next to Stephan’s desk with a German shepherd (dog) and cries “Sic ’em!”.
A juke joint was indeed a prohibition era tavern featuring dining, dancing, and drinking… to “juke” was to dance in a juke joint… there was a song by that name recorded by “Little Walter Jacobs”… And I’m just wondering why it took Pastis so long to get around to this pun…
A juke is also the move that a running back in American football puts on a defender to fake him out. Surprised no one has mentioned that definition, but then it’s not obvious how to connect the URL part.

The real question is: Why did Pig need a German Shepherd?
kzcreations.com about 12 years ago

Once again Goat fails to understand that with Pig you need to make certain you understand what he’s talking about first before asking questions.

Ist das nicht ein Schafhirte?Ja, das ist ein Scahfhirte.

Wouldn’t Pig need a “Schweinehund”?

Where’s the German Chocolate Cake?

Nice to see the pig and goat are reversed in the middle frame. That doesn’t always happen. That’s the kind of thing Reuben might just notice.

Pig does have an English pig-dog who protects his castle from marauding French knights.

I saw that one coming.

For the sake of symmetry, Goofy should have a non-anthropomorphic pet mouse. By the way, what ever happened to Maura, the non-anthropomorphic duck?

Mickey had Pluto and was friends with Goofy. If you insist on logic you can neither read the comics or vote for Republicans.
