BTW, according to Christopher Moore, in the documentary of the life of Biff, Jesus’ childhood pal, the reason Christians can eat pork is because Jesus liked bacon. He just liked it, that’s all. And he’s God and all so, well, there you go…fry up some bacon for Jesus today……..(Oh, man, now I’m tempted to go door to door proselytizing about cooking bacon!) Wake up and smell the bacon America!

Yay! I’ve learned how to read PBS — cover the strip with two pieces of scrap paper, uncover one panel at a time, see if I can figure out what the pun’s going to be. Works best with newspaper copy. Got it from the top 3!

Despite the .gif pun, I’m sure Pastis will .png right back tomorrow. He hasn’t really .psd away, anyway.

Rat is right. The man knows no limit when turning a phrase.

Actually, .PNG beats them both. .GIF is inappropriate for photographs, as it supports only 256 colors, giving photos a paint-by-numbers look. .JPG was okay for its time, but since it uses a lossy compression format, you must choose between file quality and file size. Plus, it does not support transparency. .PNG supports 256 levels of transparency, uses a non-lossy compression format, and like .JPG, it displays 16,777,216 colors. The only thing .GIF can do that the others cannot is animate. One day someone will figure out how to animate a .PNG, and then .GIF will be in the ground along with Pastis.

I just love when Pastis picks on himself. No other cartoonist I’ve ever seen does what he does. That’s why this strip is one my favorites.

Ah, Stephen … my hero. Besides you, Frank & Ernest has quoteful puns. The more my spine shrivels, the better the pun. Of course, we who love you know right from the beginning we’re being set up, but it’s such a delicious journey!

Jordy — not sure why people are still commenting on Sunday’s thread…. but in looking for something said yesterday, I saw your comment.

Is it possible that your software is merely saving everything as.png?Some software does that so you can make multiple edits in a lossless format, without recompressing and losing picture data with every save.

Then you can “save as” .jpg when you’re finished, and the image will only have been compressed once.

If you change the file name, however slightly, when you do that, your original .jpg is also preserved.

It would indeed be unusual if your software could change the file extension without your having saved the file, and also lose the original.

Aw!! I like the puns—they are complex and awful the way a great pun should be. Should I worry about Rat coming after me too?
