I am VERY sorry that Mitch was around for as long as he’s been. He has been opposed to doing good for the nation since perhaps his second election. Yes, he’s been somewhat good for his state, but even there, is it REALLY good to prevent moving into the current era? And his politics have been slash and burn, taking no prisoners and supporting the very worst among “our” legislators. HE is responsible for the current unbalanced and political SCROTUS. By himself.
I know Mitch will still be in the Senate, at least until his term is up, but I still like what Jimmy Kimmel had to say about Mitch stepping aside: “He will be retiring to the Galápagos Islands to spend more time with the other 500-year-old turtles.”
When he’s replaced by someone like Rick Scott (who, in a just world would still be in prison for defrauding Medicare instead of sitting in the Senate) some people might miss ol’ Mitch.
Mitch was another one of those political windsocks like Graham.
When Obama had the chance to appoint a Supreme Court judge. He refused to do his Constitutional Duty and hold confirmation hearings because it was an election year. Both he and Graham shouted “LET THE VOTERS DECIDE.” Then when a last minute vacancy came before Trump LOST the 2020 election he ramrodded through an confirmation AS EARLY VOTING WAS GOING ON.
On January 6th – “Yup it was Trump’s fault. Yes i will vote for him again.” Graham said , “COUNT ME OUT” and is still licking Trump’s golden sneakers.
An example of why 4 terms in Senate and 8 in House might be a good test of the system. Would prevent entrenched influence from tying the hands of those who see the need for change.
Much of the current political turmoil lays at Mitch’s feet. Holding up a Supreme Court nominee and not allowing a secret vote on trump’s impeachment being the worst, but there are many others.
Whatever else his legacy might be, for me he will forever be remembered as the guy who de-legitimized our Supreme Court. I could go on, but that’s the worst, most enduring, mill stone we now have to bear.
It is too bad that he is retaining his leadership until November. If he was to leave today, his replacement would undoubtedly be no more effective than Rep. Johnson in his parallel job in the House, which would make it all the more red-blinking-light obvious how little they know or care about real governance.
But we can be assured that the Dotard will hand-pick his successor. I’m guessing Lindsey Graham, who has been auditioning for the part on multiple Dotard golf courses. And like Ronna Romney McDaniel, although Mr. McConnell may say he’s keeping the job until November, he’ll be handed a ceremonial broom and damp mop to keep him busy from now until then as Sen. Graham perfects his genuflecting.
And the Republicans will prove themselves incapable of governing in both houses, instead of just the House, setting up a blue tsunami in November.
8 years too late. In his pursuit of power McConnell installed tRump promising to control him. The neophyte tRump learned quickly, and McConnell failed to control him but the damage was done. This Republic, our rights and freedoms, are in big trouble because of Mitch McConnell.
Stephen Colbert had the best cold open last night. It was announced that they had a video of Mitch McConnell stepping down, then it showed a turtle falling down a flight of stairs! LOL!!!!
It is too late for me to file to run in the Republican Primary on my state. I know that if I can come up with a half billion dollars, I can get Trump’s endorsement and win the primary.

I notice that the ivory is missing – better check the silverware in the Senate dining room.

I was hoping he was stepping down from the Senate completely. No, just from his leadership position. Wish he’d done that eons ago.

It’s alive and well. White supremacist fascists and billionaires have always been the ones he’s supported the most.

This cartoon should include the extinction of the Senate because McConnell broke it.

When McConnell was freezing up on camera, he was really getting visions of the Republican’s chances in November. Premonitions actually.

I’m pretty sure he’s only stepping down because he has no interest in being a minority leader after November.

The McConnell era was dead when Trump did something in January 2017 – he claims it wasn’t an oath even though he ended it with, “So help me Dad.”
