MAGA Trumpism has morphed way beyond a political movement and, for a large chunk of them (not all), has now become a religious cult.

• A recent Trump ad titled “God Made Trump” literally claims in very messianic terms that Trump was divinely chosen by god to lead the country. (I guess god must have run out of plagues.)

• At a CPAC (Conservative Political Action Committee) conference, they literally set up a golden (fools’ gold) idol — a graven image — of Donald Trump and people were actually bowing down to it. The Golden Calf grew up to become the Wall $treet Bull and has now metastasized into the Golden Bull$h Easy to find the images using Google Image Search.

• There are numerous images that have gone viral on social media platforms in which Donald Trump is portrayed in a messianic form, such as his Tweet on August 21 comparing himself to the “King of Israel” and “the second coming of God.” Many more examples can be found by Googling “Trump messianic statements.”

Trump cult worship has devolved into the most blatant possible display of what evangelical “Christians” would have once considered the most obscene possible kind of blasphemy, yet it is the evangelical “Christians” who are most fervent in the worship of their latest false messiah. But then again, Christian dominionists live lives of blind obedience to all-powerful authoritarian leaders, so it is a small thing to transfer that authoritarian worship to the newest, latest, greatest “golden” idol.

And in the meantime, Trump cult worshippers are going nuts to the point that Greg Kelley of NoiseMax slammed Taylor Swift fans for “idolatry,” noting that it is a sin condemned by the Bible, while ignoring the massive idolatrous cult worship of Trump.

The lack of self-awareness astounds.

Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-K.Y.) agreed to kill the GOP’s own border security bill on Monday evening, just three hours after coming out with emphatic support for it.

“We get that’s what they’re doing,” she said. “What it could portend if you had a Democratic Party that was coherent in the way it communicated with America, there would be an ad on television in every swing state plus Texas every day saying, ’It’s been X number of days since Democrats and Republicans came together in the Senate to pass the strongest security bill at the border that we’ve ever seen.’ [Then] delineate what’s in it and say this congressman won’t pass it, that congressman won’t pass it, that congressman won’t pass it.”

She warned that the GOP might actually be harming their own re-elections with the move.

“Because if Democrats — and I don’t know if the Democratic Party is that coherent or cohesive in terms of being able to message,” Reid prefaced. “But if they were facing a Democratic Party that could do that, they would get buried. Every single negative incident that happened at the border would be an ad. Every single person who somehow broke away through immigration and committed a crime would be an ad. They’re so lucky that they face a Democratic Party that is focused on governing and not messaging.”
