Brain freezes are horrible and hard to get rid of. Supposedly placing your tongue to the roof of your mouth firmly is supposed to help warm the soft and hard palate up and get rid of them. I’ve not had much luck with that or with drinking warm liquid. It’s enough to make you give up ice cream.
What’s interesting is there is no need for an explanation as to how they could freeze things back then. Modern day conveniences intrude into this pre-historic realm on an almost daily basis. When the strip began, their world remained rooted in their historical time slot. I guess it got harder and harder to find funny things to do in such a limited environment. Now Hart just time travels to his heart’s content. (no pun intended).
I remember trying to drink a fast food shake like trying to drink a Wendy’s Frosty – too thick to drink it fast enough to cause a brain freeze – was kinda hoping to see the guy’s head implode attempting to quickly drink a thick shake.
Kinda like that old Mr Wizard / Don Herbert experiment of trying to get a kid to drink grape juice up a 7 story straw on top of a building.
I think I could see the little brain aneurysms through his temples crushing his skull from the insane amount of pressure needed just to get up 3 stories. The kid learned a lesson, earned a headache, and walked away thirsty.
Here in Massachusetts, if you want ice cream in your milkshake, you order a frappe. In Rhode Island, for reasons I don’t understand, you have to ask for a cabinet.

Shakes and ice cream never affected me like that if I ate and drank them a little fast, but sherbet did.

Doesn’t affect me at all. I never have milkshakes, never liked them.

Milkshake eh. Me no recall seeing cow there. Except wolf and hyoomins other creatures here appears to be egg laying ones.

I’ve never seen any cows in the strip. I wonder what animal they get the milk from.

Milkshakes at my local place are so thick that you can try to drink it fast, but you’re only gonna get a tiny bit at a time through that straw.

He’s more generous with his milkshake than I would ever be. “Here, have a LITTLE sip.”

The cure theory is to press tongue on roof of mouth. (I learned the hard way in the early ’50s to press it on to school yard toys was a bad idea.)

No great shakes, I guess…
