(sighs) This week’s RWNJ lying theme of the week seems to be hating EVs. Nobody else hates them… and in fact I know of at least a few RW-not-so-NJ types who drive either EVs or hybrids. I sometimes wonder where they come up with their bushwah. (Has Qanon gone sober-sided?)
And yet, the data shows that sales of electric vehicles is increasing making up almost 10% of all US car sales. It’s just over 10% of car sales worldwide.
Do you people ever actually pay attention to facts?
Just don’t send them the kind with lithium ion batteries that blow up in flames with no warning and no way to tell in advance that it’s going to happen. The ones that it’s too tough for the Feds to write safety standards for. You know, the ones where you call 911 and by the time the Fire Department arrives the house is already in flames.
Technology is leaving the traditional gasoline vehicle behind. Eventually, the technology will become more efficient, and electric vehicles will become cheaper.
Mike: The first steam locomotives were cantankerous little contraptions which required constant repair. But their potential was seen. Ensuing decades saw refinements, improvements, and the little steam spouters grew in size and power. They knit the country together and built up the cities and industries, until bested by the new Diesels in the 1940’s. Please stop defending the fossil fuel industries so much, and look forward to a somewhat better, cleaner environment.
According to Forbes, here are the 5 top reasons why EV sales have slowed, and why G.M., Ford and the other manufacturers have reduced their plans for production.1) Unfamiliarity with the product, 2) Lingering Concerns of Range, 3) Limited Charging Network, 4) Early Adopters Have Been Fulfilled, 5) High-Interest Rates. I would add a few more…The cost vs a gas-powered car, the minerals to make the batteries, the concern for battery fires at any given time, the need to sit on the side of the road to recharge on a longer trip. Finally, you pedestrians better have your head on a swivel when crossing the street. You won’t hear an ev coming at you until it’s too late.
Those complaining about the price of gasoline, which has fallen but can only continue to increase in the future, will continue to rail about a viable alternative.
The lack of convenient public charging stations in the upper mid-west makes it impractical to have a fully electric vehicle here. I purchased a Plug-In Hybrid Car last Spring; so far, so good. I have a level two charger in the garage and by my calculations we are saving money even with the lower costs of gasoline lately. The car makes everyday driving, (local 40 miles), possible in the electric only mode. The technology in the car ties the battery usage to the Google maps function and manages the battery usage for longer drives. I like it but, I am anxious for Hydrogen technology to take over the fueling of cars when the bugs are worked out and the availability of hydrogen filling stations is widespread.
Now expect the left to start telling you that EVs are wanted by everyone and sales are through the roof and the cars are flying of the lots and they are all over the road and everyone loves them.
They’ll do that because their view of reality is all that matters. Facts don’t matter.
@Ramireztoons – willing to bet that petroleum based vehicles will be the primary means of transportation in 100 years? 50? 20? We’re within the cycle of conversion from petro to electrical vehicles.
Just like the horse to petro, there are many great leaps and stumbles, as vehicle manufacturers create excellent models and duds, as the fuel supply network is developed with same gains & losses.
I’d be willing to take your money on a long term bet, are ya willing to pony up cash or is it only ink?
PS – As a Radically Independent Moderate who’s a Never Trumper, I’ll take a Ford Mustang Mach E in my stocking, and a charging station if you think I really deserve it.
Oh Santa! I’ve been good, I’d love a new Hyundai Ioniq (the best rated EV) or even a Fiat 500, because I really don’t drive that far these days. I love the fact you guys think that would a punishment.
The most common symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning are headaches, dizziness, and nausea resulting in confusion and hallucinations, as displayed by Ramirez.
Those who berate electric cars today are likely genetically linked to those who yelled ‘Get a horse’ in 1901. Like horseless carriages in the early 1900s, electric cars will improve with time and be better than what we have now. It took about 20 years then, likely sooner now. conservatives always oppose progress.
For everyone put there, I suggest reading the novel State of Fear by Michael Crichton. He’s done a lot of research and supllied numerous footnotes to back his own beliefs on the issue of “Climate Change”.
Anyone who pooh-poohs electric vehicles because of a high initial price tag should look at long-term costs. Electric vehicles need no oil changes, no air filters, no plugs, no coils, no coolant. Need I continue? Maintenance needs for internal combustion engines are ongoing, often going up as the vehicle gets older, and often at the most inconvenient times.
50 + comments and not one addressed the cartoons real statement. People aren’t buying electric cars! Why? They are too expensive for the average citizen, the infrastructure to power them is lacking, and you don’t have range, how much does it cost to replace a battery? Not to mention that no one is talking about how this is going to affect agriculture, you need to get crops planted or harvested right now due to incoming weathering? Sorry have to spend 8hr recharging my combine, oh by the way how you going to charge it when your field is 10 miles from the charger? Fix those problems then we’ll talk.

Time for a reality check Ramirez:
I have solar panels on my roof and an electric car.
I have not paid for electricity (or gasoline, obviously) in well over a year.
And I couldn’t care less that MAGAts make fun of electric cars… they think the joke is on me. HAHAHAHAHA!

That’s if you’re not killed in the explosion, and you’re still alive to call 911.

I’ll consider buying an EV when I can recharge it in the same time it takes to fill an empty gas tank.
