My son is a Purple Belt in Brazilian Ju Jitsu, one day a Black Belt in Aikido showed up in his gym, he got embarrassed. Why? He said that in Aikido practice your opponent does not resist you, he lets you finish your move whereas the Ju Jitsu guy “resists your every move”. Former UFC champ Ronda Rousey once said when asked about Aikido “Do you see any Aikido guys in the UFC?” I’m sure that in the context of self-defense Aikido would be very effective, same as any other discipline one practices for that purpose. My son did say about BJJ “practice sport, think street.”

I remember this arc from before. Still one of my favorites.
