I am flabbergasted the Kavanaugh of all people went the way he did. I am both pleased and suspicious. I can believe Roberts flipping but Kavanaugh? What’s in it for him? Will future cases with similar stakes get the same outcome or is this a fluke? We’ll see.
There is a legitimate argument that voting district boundaries should not be molded to fit a racial balance, but, to be coherent, the legitimacy is NO district should be gerrymandered to benefit one group over another.
Clarence Thomas writes the dissent…saying Thursday’s decision will force “Alabama to intentionally redraw its longstanding congressional districts so that black voters can control a number of seats roughly proportional to the black share of the State’s population.”
True. Also true the GQP of Alabama was trying to minimize the number of seats black voters could control so that they resulted in more GQP representatives.
Gosh.. does this mean the colored voters “might” be getting some recognition? Surely, this is a trend that must be stopped. Republicans stand up now before all is lost. That old adage.. give them an inch and they will take a mile is still true. /S
Well, even a broken clock is right twice a day I suppose. Hopefully, if Congress widens their hold on the Senate and wins back the House after the 2024 election, they can pass a code of ethics on the Scotus and/or institute a 20 year term limit for SCOTUS Justices (and make it retroactive for Justices who have served that long). For those keeping score, the majority opinion was made by Chief Justice Roberts and Justices Kagan, Sotomayor, Cavanaugh and Jackson. The four dissenting Justices were Thomas, Alito, Gorsuch and Barrett.
The only way Repubs can win is to commit voter fraud. Didn’t Paxton admit to purging millions of votes. Votes that would have given Biden a win in Texas and a very different Governor.

I hope they fix it stronger this time. I’m getting really tired of the repugs stacking the deck. ( Which is cheating)

Is it too much to hope for that Roberts and Kavanaugh might not be so ideologically motivated? Stay tuned…

This is a “so close!” moment – that vote was 5-4. Should have been 9-0.

And no matter how politely they word it,Trump has been indicted for treason.

Perhaps some of SCOTUS is beginning to figure out that ringworm is more popular than they are.

It’s still an improvement. I’m shocked that this court would rule like that.
