In a shocking abuse of his congressional office, Congressman Gym Jordan, as chair of the Judiciary Committee, moved the hearing to New York City entirely for purposes of political posturing as part of a feud with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, under the subject heading of ‘Victims of Violent Crime in Manhattan” to investigate how “Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s pro-crime, anti-victim policies have led to an increase in violent crime and a dangerous community for New York City residents.”

New York City officials were quick to point out, with specific facts and statistics, that not only have murder rates in particular as well as overall crime rates in other areas gone DOWN since Bragg took office, the rates in several large cities in Ohio (Jordan’s state) are three to four times HIGHER than New York City murder and overall crime rates, but that the crime rates in Ohio state as a whole and Gym Jordan’s specific district in particular are higher than in New York City, and proposed that the hearings be moved, instead, to Ohio.

As usual, Republican half-baked theories, outright lies, urban legends and false conspiracy theories backfired in an embarrassing way when subjected to actual scrutiny and factual reality.

They always seem to do just that. What happened to republicans claiming the federal government should not interfere with state sovereignty or is it only OK if republicans do it?
