And you know, Gargoyles has been a consistent example prior to this of a paradox where history isn’t altered.

But yeah, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventures is the first time I saw such. Heck, Rufus for example never gives the lead character’s his name. It’s always the future Bill and Ted telling themselves to trust this dude Rufus.

If I remember the move Dogma correctly, a suicidal demon was willing to create a paradox that ends the universe. It wasn’t a time paradox, but a religious paradox (God can’t be wrong).

What’s the point of seeing a unicorn?

The time stream is like a line of dominos. And if you loop back around and knock down an earlier domino… no, it would already be knocked down… uh, let’s say these dominos magically reset themselves as soon as they fall. So if you branch off and take a shortcut, then when that domino gets knocked over by the part that took the long way… wait, no, I’m not trying to explain that part… um…

Well, depends on the form of time travel being utilized here, but for simplicity’s sake (and for the sake of the gag) we’ll just assume time travel on a single linear timeline for now.

I resolved that if I ever traveled back in time to meet myself, it would be to punch me in the face. Thing is, I’m not sure I could take me, so I think I’ll just not do it.

like how would it possibly destroy the world?.

There should be a vision of what could/would’ve happened.

This reminds me of that one Harry Potter movie where they existed in both the past and future at the same time and had to trick and manipulate things to turn out right for them because it in fact didn’t turn out right.

So they in fact already traveled back in time to correct it and make it work.

And specifically said BAD things happen to wizards who play with time.

I still to this day am not sure if they were talking about the ministry of magic laws and school rules or if they are talking about how wrongly tampering with time and the events in it could in fact kill you or you might simply become trapped in a certain kind of void that never begins or ends and you would just go insane.

there was a day sometime back in the 1980s where people were throwing a welcome party for people time travelling from the future.

So that we WOULD one day go back to the 1980s to attend the future welcome party.

However nobody ever showed up.

Otherwise we WOULD have time travel technology right now??.

and maybe the future “us” knows that it would be dangerous to give people of the present day the knowledge and engineering of time travel because it would allow them to really alter the world and events for the worst.

Although we might not think it so bad at first if we could prevent major disasters and save many lives.

this is playing with the theory that our lives are somehow already pre-written/destined and we can tempt our future selves to do something different.

Quite a lot of insane laws to the universe’s metaphysics if you try to think of it.

trying to fully grasp it could destroy you even if you were able to somehow fully understand it.

Time is a ball of timey wimey stuff, is it not?
