Dump is just another in a long list of incompetent greedpublicans who, when faced with their inevitable defeat, created the biggest mess he could conceive of and left it to his Democratic successor to clean up.

The Trump administration initiated the withdrawal in February of 2020 after negotiating the agreement with the Taliban. He released 5000 Taliban prisoners. Trump ordered a draw-down of troops from 13,000 to 2,500 which was achieved on January 15, 2021, 5 days before Biden became POTUS. AT that point, the US forces lacked the capability to support Afghan forces in their operations against the Taliban.

Although Trump set the deadline for full withdrawal as May 1, 2021, Biden extended it. But, effectively, the US forces were ineffective in projecting any operational force.

This was aTrump dumpster fire that Biden couldn’t reverse despite your BS cartoon.

I’m sorry for the loss of life during the withdrawal. It was the opportunists ISIS that did the damage. The military evacuated many people in a short amount of time. Many should have been gone before the date set. The US government left military hardware behind for the Afghanistan Government, to use against the Taliban. It is not the fault of the US that the Afghanistan people gave up to the Taliban. The US was there for 20 years training and propping up the Afghanistan government. Should the US have stayed another 20 years?

Same question as before. How many Americans died in Afghanistan this past month & how much did we spend to prop up their government and military after we left? We spent 2.3 Trillion, and 2402 died while there.

Good one! This is so right on, Biden’s report just came out about Afghanistan and it blames Trump! Even though no American Solider died for nearly a year before Trump left.

To me, the top line and the bottom line come to this: After the USA poured massive amounts of money into the country, after uncountable hours spent training the Afghan military, after colossal quantities of the highest quality ordnance in the world had been positioned in that benighted land, and after the deaths and woundings and maimings and trauma of hundreds of thousands of fine Americans in uniform and in mufti, the Afghanis collapsed like wet tissue paper before a barely-resisted advance of turbaned fanatics in pick-up trucks. I am deeply saddened by the consequent oppression of Afghanis who worked for a better country and for the women, but apparently not enough of the expensively outfitted native army cared enough to fight for them.

However the Biden administration screwed up the exit, the overall lack of Afghani will to defeat the Taliban doomed this extended adventure to failure.

Yes, the Biden team made more than a few mistakes here. But the Trump team did more than leave an ax lying around. And the Obama team and Bush team have some blame to own up to, also.

That is, if you are being honest.

Preparation, or lack of it, always shows up in the results.

The ship of state is like an aircraft carrier. It can be turned, but not at the last minute. Biden would have had to commit huge military resources to a project that was already doomed to failure with no Afghan partnership to speak of.

There’s plenty of blame to go around for Afghanistan, but you can’t put the blame only on Biden.

The truth be told, it is not Trump or Biden’s fault for the disastrous pullout of Afghanistan but General Milley’s. His people were in country and responsible for any bailout plans.

Put the blame where it belongs. That would be Bush et al for allowing Taliban leadership and forces escape to Pakistan. As far as I remember, the original plan was to crush the Taliban between forces coming from the west and a blocking force on the Pakistan border. Bush removed the blocking force.
