When I was little, I would use the small drinking fountain because I could reach it without having to bother someone to lift me to drink. My older sister would give me a bad time about it. It didn’t matter to me. I couldn’t read. I thought she was just being annoying, aggravating and bossy, as usual. Besides that, the water tasted the same.
Brought back a memory from my teen years. Senior class trip to Washington…~one night the first bus full of kids crossed over into Virginia and we stopped at a restaurant which was tickled to see so many customers at once. We had just ordered when the second bus arrived. There was one black kid on the bus. The Restaurant said they wouldn’t serve him, or even let him in. The word got around, and the first bus full quietly got off and left. We crossed back into DC and went to] a different restaurant.
Grew up in FL in the 50s. Blacks didn’t have separate drinking fountains, they had separate schools! I’m happy to say that my class (Class of 69) was the first to be integrated.
Given our current Supreme court, I would have thought that confession of past sins would be more acceptable. Absolution? That comes after confession and repentance.
I don’t usually make a comment this low down the listing since it’ll probably not get read. But, this toon has pushed me to comment anyway. It suggest that in Florida, and other like southern states, there is a separate history for the races. But, I member, as a 3rd grader, learning about Washington Carver, a black botanist whole vegetable improvements we now eat. And I remember learning about other black leaders and this was in a segregated elementary school for white only. BTW, this was in the late 50’s.
My mom was a Navy nurse in WWII. She was from Iowa and had never been south of Des Moines before she was posted to Norfolk, VA. She got off the train in Norfolk and went to the drinking fountains. There were two. One had a line and the other didn’t. She didn’t notice the signs and went to the one with no line. A woman started screaming at her for drinking from the Black fountain. She learned what segregation was about in less than 30 seconds. It changed her life for the better. She and my dad were outspoken supporters of the civil rights movement. MLK was a hero at our house.
I remember those – & I lived in Illinois. I also remember in college (‘61-’65) the pres. of Young Republicans tried to tell me that this sort of situation did not exist!!! Some things never change.

Oh, that’s just perfect!
Which is to say that it perfectly depicts a perfectly ridiculous and perfectly awful situation.

Once again, the left twists the truth. The banning of the AP CRT course tied to black history has nothing to do with black history.

Are teachers supposed to ignore the Black students in their classroom as well, or just their history?

Perverse, I know.
But it would be really interesting to watch DeSantis ‘debate’ Trump.
.
In his gubernatorial debate, DeSantis was asked if he would commit to being governor for the entire term, he remained totally silent with face frozen.
He does not do well in situations unless they are contrived and scripted.
.
Republican racist hero.
