Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan were the founding members of The Turtles. When the band broke up, the formed a comedy rock duo called Flo and Eddie. They also toured with Frank Zappa’s “The Mothers of Invention”.

I was under the impression that Thornapple was a Van Morrison contemporary while uncle Ted was more of a Glen Miller guy.

Growing up I would listen to my grandmother’s record albums from the 60s and 70s for hours on end. I loved the British Invasion groups.

“Brown Eyed Girl” is good but “Someone Like You” said it all for my wife and me. Thus it is our wedding song.

I have two friends that count themselves as Beetles experts. They regularly get together over the phone and try to stump eachother on trivia. Me, I know practically nothing. Now, L.Beethoven or A.Mozart, now we’re in my area of at least some knowledge.

I love oldies too but there are other bands and singers that I like that are pretty recent. However, while I can sing with them on the radio or whatever, who wrote what, I have no idea. Brown eyed girl is still one of my favorites, even though my wife has green eyes…..

I’m a true Dylan junkie. I’ve seen him in concert dozens of times, traveling anytime he’s within a couple hundred miles of Columbus. Plus I have literally thousands of bootleg concert recordings. Everything from 1960 to today.

That song is rarely heard these days, owing to its racist overtones. The original version was worse. Google it if you care.

Funny, “Brown eye’d girl” was considered controversial for “Questionable Content” because of what happens behind the stadium. Same with “Cecilia” by Simon and Garfunkel. Wouldn’t even raise an eyebrow today! I mean… Did anyone see the Grammy’s?

I haven’t become an oldies expert, but I have become an oldie. My personal favorite Van Morrison song is “Wild Night.” I also like the John Cougar Mellencamp/Meshell Ndegeocello cover. And I love any and all Uncle Ted strips!

If you’re going to talk Van Morrison, then ‘Bright Side of the Road’ is it. especially Jerry Garcia’s take

Some oldies are good, but a few years ago the radio station I listen to in the car quit playing the good ones. Now, they play a mix of the good ones (well, most of them) and the loud stuff by no-talent mop tops and others with long hair. Sometimes in the car I can hear a station from back when music was good that doesn’t play any of the bad stuff.

do you believe in magic? 1965, the golden age of music… ☺

btw, dylan himself didn’t think much of the turtles initially, but much more recently indicated that he appreciated groups like the turtles and sonny & cher turning his music into pop songs that were like commercials for his songs. apparently, he thought fairport convention covered his songs best…
