Sorry, Will, but goldenrod relies on creatures (bees and butterflies) for pollination. Ragweed, on the other hand, relies on the wind to do this, which is how all that pollen gets in the air and can cause hurricane strength sneezes.
There is a field of goldenrod around my house. It’s especially rife in places too swampy for trees. Many species, some with branching plumes over 5 feet tall. I think the narrow-leaved kind is what makes the cats so aromatic when they’ve been out on a summer day or evening.

When I lived in Lewis County, Washington (1992-2012), my pollen allergies were horrible. Now that I live in Clark County, they’re not so bad.
