If this sort of thing happened today, about half the population would cheer. The other half would mourn.

Missed the date, but then for us Brits it is 11/9/2022.

Never forget that Traitor Trump has done his very best to divide us.

Unfortunately, it took one disaster to unite us, briefly. Then, starting with Katrina, it all fell apart. Trump monopolizes on that division while doing nothing to actually fix the underlying issues that created the division.

United for a day maybe, and only because everyone stayed inside to watch non stop coverage.

And the president’s solution was to tell us to go shopping. Later we realized we’d been had when he sent our armed forces to the wrong country.

Now we have a portion of the population that rallies to the cry, “Burn it down!”

There wasn’t any money to be made by a united electorate. Right-wing media needs animosity to succeed.

A couple of republican terms sure changed that didn’t it.

Unite us? On one level, maybe. Otherwise, the whole racism thing wasn’t even dented by it. In fact, it added sand -- to the list ’o hate. (sigh)

Never forget that we must remain vigilant against terrorists who might strike again when we’re least expecting it.

Then George W Bush attacked two countries that had nothing to do with it and the world has been going downhill ever since.

Think about gerrymandering, voter suppression, placement of partisans and loyalists in key positions including the courts and freedom of expression under our Constitution.

Divided, we’re falling.

Yes, a disaster can bring us together for a time, but we need good things to keep us there. False race-baiting, false claims of racism. You will never get what you want that way and it will never bring us together.

If both sides of the aisle accuse each other of being fascist, Communist, un-American, racist, wrong, liar, etc…America won’t be the country it was meant to be. I’m willing to reach out my hand to you libs, September 11th, October 20th, June 4th, and any day in between.

Exactly so, Mike; at 73 years old, pretty sure I’ll never see that unity again :-(

Sometimes I think American voters deliberately vote for the worst possible candidate just to see what happens.

No we weren’t, Mike. That’s sentimental rubbish.

Yeah, the unity lasted for the better part of a week or so before literally everything under the sun started being politicized as “you’re with us or you’re with the enemy”. And people who ostensibly are against federal governments sure did wholeheartedly accept the federal government dictating the terms of American society and policy.
