Loony Lisa continues to push the false meme about solar panels. But then, Qonservatives have never heard of windmills, hydropower, batteries, or energy storage.

All the foolish people who think that there will be one, single source of clean, reliable, renewable energy in a modern energy grid are…well…foolish.

Of course, less travel is not an option. (/S)

I remember when the 5-hour trip to visit one of my grandmothers was an annual affair. And when my dad’s employer transferred him to a different location, which involved a 30-minute commute, we moved to a new house, which was only a 5-minute commute from the new location. (And that was in a major metropolitan area.)

And virtually all foods were grown in the US. Some were only available in certain seasons, since they didn’t come from another continent or hemisphere, transported by jet planes or mega-ships. But we didn’t mind, as we still had plenty to eat.

But now we’re encouraged to believe that consumption is almost the only valid goal in life. (I say “almost”, because there’s also celebrity.) Or even just buying, since it doesn’t seem necessary to actually use all the things that are purchased, but merely to display what has been bought.

In UK they have charging hubs. Solar powered batteries are charged and EVs are charged off the batteries. 80 cars can be accommodated at a hub.

Nope. Why: Chernobyl Disaster – Pripyat, Ukraine (Level 7)

Mihama Nuclear Power Plant – Fukushima Prefecture, Japan (Level 7)

    Kyshtym Disaster (Level 6)

Windscale Fire – Sellafield, United Kingdom (Level 5)

Three Mile Island – Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, United States (Level 5)

First Chalk River Accident – Chalk River, Ontario, Canada (Level 5)

    Ready for Level 8?

It is good to see that even in the midst of world wide supply chain problems Liesa can still get her two bowls of stupid with horse exhaust chunks for her daily breakfast.

EVs are great. I get home after dark and plug mine into my 1969 diesel 12K generator and burn 1.3 gph until it’s charged and I don’t over load the grid this way. Every 100 hours I change the 8 quarts of oil in the generator to keep it in peak condition. When the EV payment comes due I show them all the diesel fuel bills I have for running the generator and we just laugh. Good times.

Even an 8 year old could understand that the sun does not need to be shining 24/7 to be able to capture and store solar energy.

This toon is a lame cliché.

Driving an EV is so much less expensive it is foolish to even discuss it.

Not only does Ms. Benson not understand economics, she does not know what a power grid is. It’s not an either or system. Where I live our energy comes from the largest Geothermal field in the world. It also comes from solar power (provided by solar panels on houses), gas and oil (and probably coal) power plants. Down south we have Diablo Canyon. During the day solar power provides energy during peak hours when the demand is greatest. At night power use is low and other sources take over.

I am not against nuclear power. I think the danger has been blown way out of proportion and is misinformed. However climate change deniers and their allies in the fossil fuel industry either don’t know how power grids work or are purposely misleading people. Every solar panel installed is less oil we buy from Saudi Arabia and less that we drill and use. That’s better for the planet, the economy and our security.

Obsessed with attempting to return to the past, reactionaries conveniently ignore that everything changes. Buddhists call it anicca — impermanence.

All of this criticism of Ms Benson is so unfair. She’s learning, slowly. For example, she has apparently finally learned that an EV can run without being plugged in.

‘Clean’ and ‘Nuclear’ are mutually exclusive terms in describing energy production. Nuclear energy is clean PROVIDED all the many extremely complex and expensive components work PERFECTLY. When a critical one breaks down, it is anything but clean. Ask anyone who USED to live near Chernobyl or the families of those brave deceased men who made the initial damage control missions there.

What is up with this sudden push by coal lovers to expand nuclear power. Have we not learned our lessons with that? All I can say is if the republicans want nuclear energy then FOLLOW THE MONEY!!!! This is not about the good of the country but the greed of the party and its benefactors.

Nuclear is indeed a great clean energy source (if you do it right, which is a very important “if”), but it’s nearly impossible to get a new plant built because nobody wants it near their homes. The startup costs are exorbitant. In the meantime, solar is in fact very reliable — as is wind. The key is to get your power not from any one source but from a mixture. Diversify your sources, and your entire system becomes more robust.

Thorium reactors would be more reliable continuous energy sources. And most solar panels use battery backup to power in the evening. But, Lisa, regardless of how you recharge the EV, the EV is still more efficient for transportation than I|CE autos.
