“Aloud”, as I learned it, refers to verbalization, or audible communication. It doesn’t matter the volume. So if the cats purr, or meow, at all, they violate the rule.
I recently saw someone post something about wanting to “soothe” someone, except they forgot the last “e” so it went from trying to make them calm to trying to tell them the truth.
