An ex co-worker says he is precisely this. And “christian” too. He sees absolutely nothing strange about the combination. He strongly believes in being the husband in charge with a wife who’s barefoot and often pregnant. He open carries to shop for groceries, though his work won’t allow him to bring weapons to work, so they’re carefully locked in his vehicle. I know they go to church, but have no idea about whether he carries there. The weapons are for “protection” (and in case he comes across a situation where being armed can help). I believe it’s a matter of keeping his various roles completely compartmented away from each other.

Unfortunately, more people buy gasoline than personally know someone who has died of gun violence or needs an abortion. So the GOP will sweep in during the midterms.

To a majority of the voters, pocket books are more important than human life or human rights.

I hope my predictions are wrong.

Let us not forget the root cause of the recent decisions. We have three liars on the Supreme Court. Three unethical judges appointed by Trump who SWORE to God under oath that they would not touch Roe v. Wade.

With unethical judges like these we can expect all kinds of evil to come from the court.

Republican candidates claim to be Christians. Our candidate for Senate even says that the problem with the world today is that not enough people read the Bible. They use Christ’s name to promote their secular political career.

So it seems that while Republicans have a good understanding of the Second Amendment, they have a poor understanding of the Second Commandment.

When life is defined to only apply to a narrow segment of society, the next steps become “controlling” by any means necessary those not meeting those criteria.

For what it’s worth, I preached this Sunday and addressed the SCOTUS decisions. I noted that Christians are called upon to put their trust in God, not weapons. To beat their plowshares into pruning hooks, as it were. There is nothing in our (actual) faith that encourages seeing one’s neighbor as a potential enemy we need to protect ourselves from. So while the gun violence crisis in this country is a civic issue, this bizarre “need” to arm oneself against everyone in the vain expectation of somehow “protecting” oneself is simply unChristian. Those who depend on guns and pretend to have faith are in their own spiritual denial.

As for abortion, as I’ve said before, many religious denominations/traditions (and the Bible) have no problem with it. I noted in my sermon that states with lax gun laws have higher gun violence rates (with Texas having the highest rate of cops getting shot), but that states with easiest access to abortion actually had the lowest abortion rates for a whole lot of reasons. If anyone thinks abortions will stop because of this ruling, they’re insane. What WILL happen is that there will be a lot more illegal abortions, abortion tourists, and a rapid rise in the use of “Plan B” type pills. What will happen is that a lot of women without access to abortion (in red states primarily) will end up with kids they neither want nor can afford, and poverty will increase.

Many years ago my dad set me straight as per conservatives. Here’s the definition he shared with me: “A conservative is a guy who’s against government assistance until he needs some.” Therefore, I got to thinking about the recent abortion development and the irony and the hypocrisy that ride along with it in this manner: “A conservative is a guy who’s against abortion until his teen-aged daughter or his mistress get pregnant.”

This whole thing about “no abortions” is really about “no sex”. Same thing about “no contraceptives.” Sex is not for pleasure. ONLY for conception. So say the believers.

The moron who sits behind the Governer’s desk in Texas has recently explained away his States’s “no exception on abortion” rule by stating that his administration is going to go after people who commit rape and incest so that will no longer be a valid argument against “no exceptions” anti-abortion laws.

Please be aware that Texas has the highest incident of rape and incest (over 15,000 cases in the last recorded year), so note that even IF a small percentage of Texas rapes result in pregnancy, that would be a large number of rape-babies being carried to term- how is this a good thing – especially with Texas not providing any type of safety net for caring for either the mother or the baby after birth!

One of the first things I was taught as a child is that once you interfere with an entity’s life, you become responsible for that entity’s life – where is a display of Texas “caring” for ANY of the lives it’s affecting. O course, if it’s about “control” then it’s something else, again…

Because a lot of shameless guys like the Proud Boys were armed at the Capitol, the secret service refused to take Trump to the riot so he could lead it.

Traitor Trump whined, “But they aren’t after me!” and grabbed the steering wheel and tried to change the direction of the car.

The Secret Service took Bozo Trump to the WH where he had to watch his handiwork on TV instead of leading it.

Traitor Trump refused to call out reinforcements to stop the riot.

Another mass shooting at a 4th of July Parade in the Chicago Area! Celebrating the Republican support of the Second Amendment.

42% of Republicans believe that mass shootings are the new normal and we should just “get used to them” and move on.

I spent 25 years in the military. In all of that time I lost a lot of friends. In all of that time I had never seen any of them gunned down in front of me. That makes me a lot luckier than thousands of schoolchildren over the past couple of years.

In spite of my not seeing people murdered in front of me, I still am not able to “get used to it.” I guess the difference between me and a Republican is that I have compassion.

The United States has had more mass shootings THIS WEEKEND than Denmark has in a DECADE. I don’t think that is because Denmark has gun laws that are better than ours. I think it is cultural. Americans are a naturally violent culture: if you don’t like the answer, threaten or use actual violence.
