In Tucson AZ there is a big thing about light pollution, at least partially related to the observatory on a mountain there. Recently there was a fire, not sure if the observatory survived it. But any trip outside at night in Tucson is definitely in the DARK. Few streetlights for safety, parking lots barely lit at all, things like that. But the sky – just incredible stars! So much easier to see and enjoy! Every time I go there I will go outside and look for shooting stars until my neck aches.
Around here we have “visual noise.” Driving down the main strip, it is impossible to find what you are looking for since every other foot, there is another sign.
I’ve also seen some “malfunction junctions” where there are so many directional signs you have to stop to read them all.
