The Justices who are agreeing to vote to strike down Roe v Wade should all be kicked off the SCOTUS for the perjury they committed during their confirmation hearings when they ALL stated that Roe v Wade is the “law of the land”, and a precedent they wouldn’t demolish.
Conservatives are all upset about an unprecedented leak in an unprecedented attempt to roll back well-established rights, and Chief Justice Roberts has even ordered his marshal to conduct an investigation.
But when it comes to Clarence Thomas violating statutory judicial ethics about recusal from a case directly involving his wife, silence.
And no, the Supreme Court is NOT immune from the federal statute that spells out judicial ethics, although many people seem to confuse “self-policing” (which has not turned out so well when the court is packed with corrupt conservatives) with “not subject to” which, I guess in today’s world of conservative disregard for law, is about the same things in practice.
The reality is that all six of the conservative justices are illegitimate. We are being ruled by an illegitimate court, with a majority appointed by unelected president and confirmed by a senate in which 16% of the population can vote to elect a majority in the senate.
5 stinking lying republican chief justices should be arrested for trying to control all the bodies of all the women in America and thinking to get away with it. Call a VOTE!
I wish John Roberts and the SC Justices had spoken up when McConnell blocked Garland’s nomination and then rushed through Barrett-Cohen’s. Dems in Congress should have screamed from the rooftops. But now we have a Chief Justice screaming about a leaked opinion while allowing one of the members to violate all ethical protocols and vote on issues his wife is deeply involved in. The U.S. system of law is as broken as the other 2 branches.
This might be a “watch what you wish for” situation. Conservatives carefully stacked the courts, most egregiously SCOTUS. Now public perception of and respect for the courts is falling, the political opposition is galvanized, and there could be consequent social repercussions.
Any person that believes that Mitch gives a damn about any of this, is misguided. Mitch would do it all again if the same situation presented itself. Winning at all costs is Mitch’s modus operandi.
The answer is simple. For people who respect women and do not think the Government should regulate reproduction, you have to vote for every democrat you can. Otherwise, the next people the Christian Taliban come for might be you.
Hey, folks! Even if the Court declares that abortion is not a Constitutional “right”, the Constitution most definitely does not forbid abortion.
So it is still within the Constitution for Congress to pass and the President to sign a federal law declaring it to be a right to every woman under United States law.
So, all of you who believe it should be a right, tell your Congresspeople, our President, and the members at all levels of your political parties to push — and I mean push, not just grumble and mumble — for such legislation.
Get organized! Get loud! Don’t just “defend” your position, but attack those who would silence you!
And now! Don’t wait for the Supreme Court to formally announce its decision! And definitely, don’t wait until the midterm elections are over. Make it a top issue in the elections. All the polls record that a majority of Americans favor a “right” to elect an abortion. Let’s get all of them to have that issue affect their votes, not just those who favor coercing others.
My body, my choice…only when it involves killing a fetus. Forcing people to take an experimental vaccine is different though. The problem with abortion today is they have moved the goalposts. Basically, you can let a baby die after it’s born. The euphemisms had to be drummed up, because to just state, “ I want to kill my baby” sounds too horrible (for most people). This isn’t the 60’s or 70’s anymore. There are many different birth control methods, all of which are free and easy to get, having a child out of wedlock isn’t looked down on anymore. Using abortion as family planning is sickening. Abortion comes with risks also. 2% of women 15-44 have an abortion, 47% of them, have at least 2. 60% have some college or a college degree. They know how to get and use contraception. I pay taxes and donate money, so don’t tell me I want to make these people have a baby, but then won’t help them. AND, the most important thing of all, for all you mouth watering abortion lovers, they aren’t ending abortion, they are returning it to the states, where it belongs. One more thing, your generalizations about Republicans is lazy. All Republicans and all Democrats aren’t in lockstep with each other.
What will SCOTUS undo next?: Griswold v. Connecticut, 381 U.S. 479, was a landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in which the Court ruled that the Constitution of the United States protects the liberty of married couples to buy and use contraceptives without government restriction. Wikipedia

As the GOP is showing us, elections no longer have consequences. Rigging the system does. And they are masters at it.

Anyone who has watched the series “The Good Place” can understand where Mitch McConnell came from. (and it ain’t the good place.)

Mitch did indeed steal that seat. But in light of how feckless Garland has proved himself to be as Attorney General it might not have been all bad.

They should be applauded. The states will now be in charge of abortion rights. The feds no are no longer involved in the issue. That is a good thing.
