Opal’s stoicism is very telling in this situation.

I tried something similar a few times, but it turns out that my brain is smarter than I am.

I had lower back pain for years. Doctors didn’t agree on a diagnosis or treatment. I was down to getting spinal injections, but the physiatrist said I could try physical therapy. I did and the stretching exercises helped. The pain is now completely gone. So I do the exercises regularly even though I don’t like doing them.

Whenever I feel like exercising I just lie down until the feeling goes away.

At my age, I faithfully follow Nike’s one-time maxim of “Just Do It.” I “just do it” before “I just forget it.” (sigh)

Your brain is not the problem. You need to exercise before your BODY realizes what you’re doing, so it doesn’t get upset and decide to hurt you.

Earl just forgot to exercise in the morning. That’s really why he’s doing it in the afternoon.

Off-topic – GoComics now appears to go to the proper comment when you click on a notification. Unfortunately, in rewriting code to eliminate ad-blocking and match changes to advertisers’ code, GoComics did not fix the multiple notification problem. When someone “likes” a response to your comment, you get another notification of the original comment. This is not helpful. I have reported this a couple of different times as I narrowed the scope of the problem but was told they would have to rewrite the code of the Comments section. This would have been the time to do so and would have resulted in at least one more Premium member.

Unfortunately for Earl, a lot of what he does happens before his brain realizes what he’s doing.

Hey, me too, but PT was bad for my 3-types of arthritis. I’ve had over 20 epidurals, which only worked for about a month, and now resort to a back / sciatic-joint brace. My bro had acupuncture, which works.

Sounds like he needs some brain exercise. (I’m far more concerned with brain deterioration than body deterioration)

Does anyone else get annoyed by the i-Phone “Health” app? It tells you steps each day, but in the “Highlights” section, it chastises you for variations of “You’re walking less than you did yesterday/last week/last month, etc.” Shut up! It doesn’t know I went swimming or biking or whatever. (Or forgot to turn my phone on again after nap time, ha ha).

Yeah, it’s best to sneak up on those exercises, lest they wait for you.

Walking is still the best exercise. “Spot” exercising doesn’t give you that full-body stimulation for long enough, especially for older people. Walking is also less boring than other forms of exercise. Of course, the best way to promote your own walking is to walk “to” somewhere. The worst way is if that destination is a bakery. (I speak from experience.)
