My grandmother had a vacuum like that I think she bought in the 1950s, woven cloth-covered hose and all. Seems a bit dated even for the strip’s 1st run.
What happened? Is this the same backyard porch that the carpenters tore down and have already raised the frame to the new bedroom and bathroom? Maybe this is a flashback dream Elly has.
I’m surprised that John and Ellie didn’t have a central vacuum system installed with the remodel. Most homes built in Canada for many years have had central vacuum systems installed. So nice to just have a hose and the necessary attachments to clean with. Light, easy and seriously convenient as well as whisper quiet.
Elly’s first mistake is shaking those rugs into the wind. All of the dirt would end up either on Farley or on the porch with Elly. Remember Jim Croce’s advice: “Don’t spit into the wind.”. There’s a really good reason.

Easy to clean all the dirt up, if you remove your eyes first. However, the downside is that you don’t see your dog.

If only she’d heard the snoring. (please don’t fuss at me about how dogs don’t snore that loud; it was a joke)

One must be careful of the dirt they spread. It may come back to haunt you.

Any woman who loves a clean and tidy house would not have a dog like Farley.

I’ve got three dogs. I decided long ago that I like dog hair on everything I own – it’s easier that way!

Well it does serve her right for dumping it on him.

I love how many of FBOFW Sunday comics are wordless, or nearly so, allowing people of all languages to enjoy them.
