“Tis the season. Dickens learned a bit about child labor when his father was sent to debtors’ prison. Little Dorrit is partly set in the Marshalsea. A Christmas Carol changed the way the holiday was celebrated, placing much more focus on giving to the needy. I highly recommend the 1951 film adaptation with Alistair Sim. Classic.
Of course, the boy and girl are sheltered by Christmas Present, but the drawing looks like Christmas Yet to Come. The image is more evocative this way, though…
This is truly a powerful image…our Xmas future? … Or just a repeat of all our Xmases past?., Sigh…I have really been wishing for the end of poverty and war.,.and the blessings of human dignity for everyone on earth, no exclusions, no prejudices, no more ME..ME…ME… sigh…it really would have been nice.
Every time I read this passage it strikes closer to home: The boy is Ignorance… but most of all beware this boy, for on his brow I see that written which is Doom, unless the writing be erased. Deny it! Slander those who tell it ye! Admit it for your factious purposes, and make it worse! And bide the end!
Ignorance leads to downfall. Call out anyone who spreads ignorance. Those that rely on ignorance to come to power, only make things worse, and will lead to the end.

Well, sure, but some of their parents might use any money they are given for drugs.

Hasn’t changed that much; ignorance seems even more evident today.

A message that is even more relevant today than when Dickens wrote it. The golden haired traitor the warnings poster man-child…

I bought a copy of Lieutenant Dangerous for my Vietnamese nam vet husband. I hope it’s safe for him (not triggering). Trusting you, Jeff.

A more elegant statement against greed and self-absorption has never been written.

And, here we are, with Ignorance ransacking the cites and the countryside, out for revenge.
