I had an item paid for but got noticed two days later it was on back-order. Yep quoted Feb. I cancelled and found the item at their supplier. Received the part in the mail in three days. Crazy!
I ordered 2 items (well a lot more, but these 2 have a story) & was tracking the order, It were supposed to be out for delivery. A little later, the driver was running late & delivery would be in 2 days. Then 2 days later, I got an email, the items were received back & I was issued a refund??? Luckily I didn’t need them. They were a gift I needed by today, so no need to reorder.
I give money and gift cards, mostly. I ordered stuff in October to ensure I got them. I just have to get two gift cards and they are for local store, so shouldn’t be a problem.
I know the news is saying that everything will be hopelessly backordered, but I just ordered a pile of stuff from Amazon yesterday and most of the items are scheduled to arrive next week, with the one outlier arriving a week after that.
February? I’m seeing delays like that for major appliances and repair parts, but not for the kinds of things people are likely to be giving as gifts.
As with teleworking, the pandemic was a big cultural boost for online shopping. It’ll take a hit when it’s over. If any stores survive. People liked the convenience, but now realize, hey wait, I want to go to a store.
One Xmas I got a rain check instead of the gift. It arrived the next April. And after crossing the continent for undergrad and on to Edinburgh for med school and other places to study, live and work, that little R2-D2 now stands guard at my computer.

Either wait until February or go and fight the crowds at the store…

That’s when you put a picture of said item in a box and wrap it.

We don’t do xmas. My wife’s birthday is in January, so she likes shopping the post-holidays sales.
