I wonder who Time Nelson was. I guess that the “business” that Time Nelson had is the one she is now running. (I’m still not sure that yellow is the best colour for the hoodie, but it’s not bad.)

A Rose by any other name…

Too much shadow under Tracy’s eyes. He looks like a lineman.

Shelley does it again, with that great portrait of Tracy with the light coming from below his face. It’s fitting for the place he’s in.

Is it just me or do Tracy’s eyebrows and the shadows around his eyes bear a “spirited” resemblance to a costume worn by a certain Mr. Denny Colt?

Okay, Bogart knows Rose’s past; what does he know about her present?

Yikes !  Didn’t know she has killed which probably has Tracy seriously considering that’s how Sterling demised. This is one Roach who can coach me, when I am looking for bad guys or a between meals bite.

Seems Briar Rose is a tough customer and a lot more than a mere gun moll.

A story like that will get her fingered for at least one murder.

I’m sort of shocked that the computer in the Bat Cave… Sorry, MCU, didn’t have any of this in their records. Tracy had a vague memory of her in a gang line-up years earlier (10/14/21). And that was it? Thank goodness the stoolies with more knowledge than the PD.

I really like that shot of Tracy in the last panel. Gritty, rugged, shows some true emotion and power.

Way way back in the early 1970s DC had a back-up feature in the Lois Lane comic called “The Rose & The Thorn.” “Rose” was a normal young woman whose father was a police officer killed by the “100,” the main crime gang in her town. The trauma caused a psychological disorder so that at nite, while she was asleep, “Rose” would awaken & become “The Thorn,” a customed (a very revealing costume for the time) crime-fighting hero. Wonder if she’s related to Rose Brier ….

It’s all phrased very obliquely, but my interpretation is that Tim Nelson ran prostitutes and recruited naive newcomers into his service. Briar Rose was more than he could intimidate, however. She offed him and took on the rôle of mistress of the pack, and runs a string of Ladies of the Night right up until this day. Not even anywhere near half so sweet as she looks….

In the words of the Monk theme song, " I could be wrong, but I don’t think so."

That’s some pretty good shadow work under Tracy’s eyes.

That’s a good bit of writing. The words “pimp” and “prostitute” aren’t used, yet adults understand exactly what is meant, but children don’t need to. Also, with just a couple of lines, we can sympathize with a teenage runaway who winds up a prostitute.
