Thought experiment: If any of the serious candidates in the 2016 Republican primaries had won the nomination and subsequently the general election, would the Covid death toll be far lower, and would far more people have taken (and continue to take) the common sense steps of first wearing masks and then (when they became available) taking the vaccines? Yes, because none of the other candidates have anything like the vast array of serious mental illnesses that Traitor Trump has. (To be strictly fair, most of them aren’t mentally ill in the first place!)
