From what I hear, it’s been storming a lot in NYC… I’ve seen some great pictures on Twitter too. So is it being said that Democrats are being realistic, while RepubliQans are living in CandyLand?
The truth is that — the truth is complex, slightly fungible and not at all pleasant when you focus on the unpleasant aspects. But the truth is also complex, slightly fungible and downright heartening when you focus on what’s getting better (however slowly).
Neither picture is totally correct. Nasty things were policy in the US in the past and there still are some. But quite a few things were good. IE: A war that ended up freeing slaves (Republican led). A document that spelled out the people controlled the government, not the other way around. And systemic racsim now? If it so bad, why are so many people of color coming from countries controlled by their own race (Including Black Africans) coming here and so few leaving?
In my US history courses I warned students we would talk a lot about mistakes and flaws because, as we do in our own lives, we need to learn from our mistakes.
CRT is being shaped into a formidable weapon by FOX News and the Republicans. Nightly CRT briefings from FOX, and I mean it’s every night, is being fed to their viewers. CRT will win the House, the Senate, and the White House back for the GOP. The Dems have no counter measures.
I think we’re meant to learn from history and move forward. The irrelevant confederate memorials and flags are coming down because people said wtf. I always liked the line from Billy Joel’s Keeping The Faith: Cause the good old days weren’t always good and tomorrow ain’t as bad as it seems.
The usual suspects commenting it’s all the GOPs fault. Taking no responsibility for Democrat Gestapo tactics on full display. Book burning Stasi need to be defeated by any means necessary.
The truth is always in the middle; that being history is full of rainbows and storms; some natural but most is man made. Such as, the birth of America (sunny day) meant the subjugation of the native population (ugly storm).
#BothSidesDont Please stop equating Democrats and Republicans. This cartoon isn’t even close to even a parody of a depiction of how the two sides approach teaching of history. You are helping to poison our body politic.
A tip for you Phil, history is pretty impartial and can’t be changed. What we can do however, is learn from it and endeavour to not make the same mistakes again. Failure to do that makes one pretty bloody stupid. Failure to acknowledge the wrongs of the past, makes one very ignorant. Could it be, you are striving to be both?

Rainbow’s and unicorn’s for the GOP? That seems rather fanciful. Democrat’s seeing only dark clouds and lightening. Very weird.

What you take away from that history book depends on what was written, who the author was, and the change in societal norms between then and now.

The GOP wouldn’t do anything that has a rainbow attached to it unless it was to cancel it!

It’s a mixture. We should acknowledge our failures and move on for the entire country, not for the corporate elite.

Interesting. Rethugliecons repel unicorns, though.

Teaching history should include both bad and good things we have done. That’s just telling the truth

Is it just me or does the unicorn’s mane bear a striking resemblance to the LGBTQ Pride flag?

There have never been unicorns in history. The Donkey is doing the better job.

Wrong. It is the Republican/conservatives who do the fear peddling, much like this comic, to keep their faithful in lockstep.

I’m surprised the elephant is painting a rainbow, considering that these days it symbolizes more than a pot of gold.
