Terrible cartoon. Maybe we should concentrate of fixing the problems that make her not want to face the flag instead of attack her. Protests do not get more peaceful than what she did.
People protest violently and they’re wrong. People protest peacefully and, again, they’re wrong. People have a right to disagree and use their platform to express it. America’s not turning her back on Gwen Berry, only the people who don’t understand what America means.
Disrespect of our flag, the flag of the country that gives the freedom to protest any issue without fear of reprisals or imprisonment is foolish. Our flag should be held high and honored for giving everyone the opportunity to protest or disagree any issue. If you don’t like our country or its flag, you are free to go to any other country you want. Using the Olympics as a platform to protest against the country for which you preform is self defeating, not preforming would be a better way to protest. So please don’t preform for the USA in the Olympics because you are not wanted or needed. Go some place else to show disrespect and anti-Americanism.
Ramirez-the-Shill NEVER identifies or analyses a problem. He simply learns what his benighted followers political/economic complaint du jour and capitalizes on it. Such complaints are the product of narrow-mindedness, not of any genuine intelligent, educated, and experienced understanding of events. Just breathtakingly stupid (i.e, the willing embrace of ignorance) people proudly asserting their stupidity for one and all to see.
The question is why would she want to represent a country that discounts her very existence? Cassius Clay(Muhammad Ali) was refused service at a local restaurant even after winning the Gold Medal in boxing for the U.S. It’s not that she doesn’t love her country. Her country doesn’t love her.
As usual Republicans are more concerned about an athlete’s peaceful protest than their entire party turning their backs on Democracy. Well. Except for Liz Cheney.
Maybe Ramirez should be spending time thinking about the mistreatment of average citizens and minorities instead of protesting protests. Wait a minute. Is he a dyed-in-the-wool member of the Repulsican Crime Family?
If my ancestors arrived here under the same conditions and experienced the same racism as well as myself, I wouldn’t have the warm fuzzies over the flag either. But she is representing the U S so at least go through the motions or let someone else go.
I think the bottom is this. It’s not the protesting they object to, it’s where their protesting at. There’s a TIME and PLACE for everything. This is the TIME, but the wrong PLACE!
Well turning one’s back on the flag is infinitely better than using a flag on a stick to belt cops around the head with. How disrespectful was that Mikey? Convenient memory.
Right wingers: Your speech and behavior is “free” only so long as you toe the right wing line. This is exactly the same as the “kneeling for the anthem” outrage.

If you’re more upset by a black woman turning her back on the flag than white supremacists attacking the Capitol you are racist.
Forced patriotism is not patriotic, it is fascism.

Brings to mind the 1968 Olympics and the Black Power Salute, on international TV. Things have not changed much.

Samuel Johnson famously said that “Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel.”
He wasn’t talking about patriotism.

Ironic how the people who routinely shit on American values are outraged by an Black athletes use their podium to protest racism.

If she wanted to protest she should have attacked the Capitol and assaulted the police like “true patriots” do. Another load of BS from you, Michael.

She had no need to protest. She finished third. The other two athletes deserved their time without incident. She herself is not team player!
