“Fugu” as shashemi Puffer fish are called in Japan are considered a dining delicacy. Sushi chefs take years of study to deftly remove the ovaries and/or livers of the fish where the neurotoxins are concentrated. However, after consuming, it is common to experience numbness in the fingers and toes for a period of time. Every year though, there are about a dozen gourmet diners that meet their end when toxic pieces of the raw fish are missed, and respiratory/cardiac functions cease.
There’s pufferfish and pufferfish. All are more or less dangerously toxic. Those used to prepare fugu sashimi are fatal if not carved just so.

“The symptoms from ingesting a lethal dose of tetrodotoxin [the toxin present in the fugu puffer] may include dizziness, exhaustion, headache, nausea, or difficulty breathing. The person remains conscious but cannot speak or move. Breathing stops and asphyxiation follows. There is no known antidote, and treatment consists of emptying the stomach, giving the person activated charcoal to bind the toxin, and putting them on life support until the poison has worn off. Toxicologists have been working on developing an antidote for tetrodotoxin.”

God help you as a parent if he’s gone to Kissing Gouramis! By then you’ll need an expert ichthyologist to convince him that he’s in troubled waters.
