Texas has other ways of killing their residents. mostly through neglect, lack of regulations, dangerous commercial sites, poor healthcare, corner cutting of services, etc.

Texas seems fair to middling — nothing special — in their handling of Covid-19 cases/deaths.

Yes, Lisa, this coming from the state that didn’t have the fore thought to prepare for a cold snap that might take down their power systems. Texas’ independent nature kept itself off the grid so no power was available in case of an emergency. That same independence might very well cause a major spike in the pandemic that we will all have to suffer for.

Don’t suppose Lisa could give Joe credit. Long.. is a relative term and by all sane measure turning the COVID thing around happened pretty fast.. Certainly faster than the trump could have accomplished.. and would be even faster if certain fools would get on with the program.

I’ve noticed a number of television ads promoting Texas as a tourist destination. Given its recent history, I’ve classified it as not a nice place to visit – and I certainly wouldn’t want to live there. On the other hand, I probably wouldn’t live there long . . . .

The cost of hubris this past year has been lives. Good people feel bad about the consequences and try to mitigate it. Bad people double down on their hubris despite that cost.

Only 38% of Americans are fully vaccinated. In Texas, it’s less than a third. If you want to be an idiot & pretend it’s over, despite not getting vaccinated, go ahead!

That’s possibly one less vote for Republicans.

Major corporations come out against proposed voting restrictions in Texas

Dozens of big companies, local businesses and chambers of commerce issued a statement reflecting the biggest pushback yet by the business community against Texas Republican efforts to further tighten the state’s restrictive voting rules.

“We stand together, as a nonpartisan coalition, calling on all elected leaders in Texas to support reforms that make democracy more accessible and oppose any changes that would restrict eligible voters’ access to the ballot,” the businesses wrote in their letter. “We urge business and civic leaders to join us as we call upon lawmakers to uphold our ever elusive core democratic principle: equality. By supporting a stronger trustworthy democracy, we will elevate our economy.”
