The guy on the right who owns the car should repay, from his own pocket, the guy in the middle for buying the gas. Then he (the car owner) will be fully justified in expecting to be reimbursed the standard rate of 57.5 cents per mile for the use of his car. Then they should split the rest three ways (the driver deserves nothing extra — he was doing his job).
In the past year, I’ve had to use my car for work occasionally, and I’ve become very experienced with filing expense reports.
