I’m really not much in favor of whataboutism. But “whatabout” Bok’s treatment of what #45 (which is 22 times worse than plain ol’ “number two”) did to the CDC?
Is it possible that teachers CARE about the health and welfare of students and their families? Yes, definitely. Is possible that some politicians DON’T CARE about the health and welfare of their constituents and their families? Yes, positively.
First off, the claim that it’s teacher unions keeping schools closed is a flat out lie. So is the claim that the CDC gives any kind of a crap about what teacher unions think.
Secondly, it’s parents who are keeping their kids home. In my district , when given a choice, more than half of our parents opted to keep their kids home.
After decades of effort gaining better pay, improved working conditions, and an appropriately enhanced level of respect as professionals, it is ironic that teachers themselves have done serious damage to public education during the pandemic, especially as it wanes. Prediction: public school enrollment markedly declines; private school enrollment skyrockets; public school levy issues will face stiff resistance in the near term.
The simplest answer is to vaccinate everyone. And get the boosters for the variants when they become available. Without unity in this, we will continue to bury people that didn’t need to die or suffer from a horrible illness. Feeling sick for a day is better than feeling sick for 10 days, and possibly suffering long term organ damage.
When I retired from the Air Force, I earned a high school science teaching credential. I can say that it is the most regulated job in America. There are rules from the Feds, state, local school districts, school administrators, and finally, a few arm chair educators known as parents. Still, in spite of this, the students are great and made it worth it.

Bok is neither a “teacher” nor a “pupil” so he doesn’t care how many die.

Baghdad Bok is perpetuating the rumor started by the NY Daily Post (tabloid) and repackaged by the WSJ opinion column.

And remember, kids, get your vaccine so you can … nah, you still have to wear a mask, says Fauci.

Yeah, who cares about teachers? They’re expendable.

Now, if that were the police union, Bok would be 100% behind it. But Bok, and Republicans, hate teachers and public education, so they can go to hell.

Blaming this mess on teachers is BS.

Probably a more thought out decision than one by someone who thinks injecting bleach is the solution.
