THAT would be almost worth ACTUALLY dying, to avoid. Almost. I have no such problem, personally, but a related visit to a few particular friends of Spouse is in the neighborhood. I keep her guessing by using the changeup: Start a greasy/dirty/smelly project that takes long enough so cleaning up to presentability is infeasible. Or, just beg “no”. Or, just go, but sneak in a book (this has the advantage of making my less suitable for the NEXT visit). Or just go and find a comfortable chair to nap in. There’s one such who I simply refuse to interact with. “Beg no” → “Just say no”. Spouse has allowed me that one condition. But I dasn’t play that for any other.
All this drama. Earl should be happy to be invited out….there’s some things in life that have to be tolerated….Opals sister doesn’t know how to cook, either!

There"s an actual book called 101 Uses for a Dead Cat. Maybe Opal should write one called 101 Uses for a Dead Husband.

The problem with dining at Opal’s sister’s house is that he is likely to be elbowed from two different directions, instead of just the usual one.

Talk about Earl as if he is lying in a casket.

Opal just leave Earl home, why put him into a position that will be nothing but trouble ?

Sometimes at work, people assigned to partner with me fake their deaths too! (facetious self-deprecation)

All you and your sister do is make fun of him. Why don’t the two of you do a girl’s night and let Earl stay home and watch TV?

Phone the taxidermist – maybe you can get a “toofer” Muffin & Earl.

He’s probably down there because he bent down looking for something under the sofa and can’t get up.

I just like that, of the two bodies on the floor, the “Oh, dear!” is for the cat.

I thought that woman Opal is talking to is one of her sisters. If that is the case, shouldn’t Opal have said “… dinner at our sister’s tonight” ?
BJP almost 3 years ago
Nope. Opal’s sister, Pearl, is a different character. I think this woman is Opal’s friend.
