Sounds a little like treat others as you would want them to treat you.

Or, we are all in this together. I help you and you help me.

We all work together and it is a win, win situation. And life gets better for everyone. We all compete and it is a zero sum game and some people win and some people lose. Which means we don’t gain.

C’mon Carmen, as a republican your purpose is to “Own the Libs”, and then remove members of your party i.e. Liz Cheney , for speaking the truth and then your purpose is to swear fealty to the Odious Orange Orifice and Malignant Narcissist Herr Drumpf!

Taking the Long View: To serve each other means, Eat and and in turn be eaten. Penultimately, all organisms serve themselves up to be compost in the Local Recyling Center, Earth — and ultimately, the whole Universe. All else is Vanity. (—

New York Times The Morning: Why Cheney matters By David Leonhardt — internal Republican debates can sometimes feel like an exhausting partisan sideshow. They are not. The last few months have the potential to be a turning point for the country because of what is happening inside the Republican Party. In more than 10 states, including Texas, Florida, Georgia and Arizona, Republican lawmakers have responded to Trump’s defeat by moving to make voting more difficult. A few states have also given state legislators more power over election administrators, potentially making it easier for politicians to reject an election’s result. Could all of these moves come to little, much as Trump’s postelection flailing did? Yes, that’s one possible outcome. But it is not the only one.

Given the events of the previous four years, hearing a conservative say “We are here to serve each other” brings up uneasy recollections of the Twilight Zone episode To Serve Man (1962) or the movie Soylent Green (1973).

We could start with a simple one, Carmen, a reasonable understanding and determination for the truth. The GQP has abandoned that virtue.

Charlie Brown: I think the reason we’re here is to help other people. Lucy: What are the other people here for?

Hillel: If I am not for myself, who will be? If I am only for myself, what am I?

Spinoza wrote hundreds of pages arguing methodically that (a) self-interest is the only “good,” but (b) cooperation, tolerance, and mutual assistance are, in the big picture, in one’s self interest and therefor “good.”

So I agree with Carmen that the answer may be simpler than we think it is, but I don’t think it’s as simple as Carmen thinks it is…

For every one who wants to serve, there are ten who try to take advantage.

Six months ago most of the commenters here wouldn’t give Representive Chaney a bottle of water if she was waiting in line to vote, in fact most would have automatically disliked her just because of her name. To day she is everyones darling.

If you try to make things nicer when you leave than when you got there, at least there’s a chance things will be nicer when you leave than when you got there.
