It works. Bread’s good for that, too.

I eat my peas with honey / I’ve done it all my life. / It makes my peas taste funny / But it keeps them on my knife.

That’s what my dad said the piece of bread was for. He always had a piece of buttered bread on his plate.

Knives work for that too, but that would entail setting the table with them.

    The Goopsby Gillette Burgess

The Goops they lick their fingers and the Goops they lick their knives: They spill their broth on the tablecloth. Oh, they lead disgusting lives! The Goops they talk while eating, and loud and fast they chew; and that is why I’m glad that I am not a Goop, are you?

Finish your peas before all the other food that you can push them up against, to get them on your fork ,are gone.

Bank them up against your mashed potatoes. Loose peas go back in the pot when no one’s looking. Life skill.

As a song my Mom sang when I was kid says: “Always mix your peas with your potatoes/That makes eating with your knife a cinch”.

How about teaching the life skill of sorting out undesirable vegetables (like peas, carrots, and celery) that someone (must have mistakenly) mixed in with some other foods.
