I guess that’s so in Al’s universe. meanwhile, in the Real World, the Keystone was a means to carry the nastiest tar sands from Canada to Texas, where it’s refined and sold on the world market, putting the US on the hook for cleaning up the spills and maintaining the pipeline to pad Canada’s coffers. Right now, they are losing money at $55/bbl, they need it at $95/bbl to even try and turn a profit.
But that’s not the case in Al’s universe. Goodwyn’s Law™. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8qcccZy03s
I love it when a non-economist comments on economic issues. They almost always get everything wrong. Goodwyn, however, goes one step further, and and always gets it wrong,.
Why don’t they build a refinery in Canada instead of building an impossibly long pipeline all the way across the United States? It’s a very poor source of oil anyway. We have lots of fuel due to fracking.
Much of the oil to be delivered by this pipeline (tho’ not all) comes from tar sands. If this oil spills, it is very difficult to clean up and probably would cause the pipeline to declare bankruptcy thus passing the cost along to local governments. It was a bad plan and we don’t need the oil.Alberta is a relatively poor state. Their accommodation to the problem is to synthesize a portion of the oil into a product easier to transport but there are no guarantees that it will be tar free.Biden is right. Now we need to find ways to help Canada adjust.
Biden is considering cancelling Trump’s arms sales to the Saudis as they only used the arms the republicans sold them to blow up school buses and kill children.
No, actually, the oil transported by that pipeline would have gone to compete with local oil producers in Oklahoma, not with Arab states and Russia. Not to mention that we should be moving away from fossil fuels entirely, which would in turn direly weaken the position of oil-rich countries that are aligned against us. You’d think all of the good, patriotic neocons would be all for it.
All oil transported through Keystone is earmarked to go to China. It’s too dirty for US use and they don’t want to pay import duties on it. By existing law none of it can be used in the United States. Anyone who tells you different is either ignorant or a liar.
We live 1 mile from the pipeline and the town where my wife works employees hundreds at the refinery. Keeps America as an oil exporter vs an importer. People who speak in favor of halting the pipeline are buying into leftist ideology without examining the facts. The potential losers are American workers and we as gasoline purchasers. It has never been so cheap (adjusted for inflation) The winners are the two entities depicted in the cartoon. I Can’t believe some of you are even disputing this.
Again, putting a hammer and sickle on the bear’s hat shows Goodwyn is 30 years behind the times. Were any cartoonists in 1975 still using swastikas to represent Germany?
I believe GM’s statement that they will build no more petroleum fueled cars after 2035 makes this issue moot. The original Keystone pipeline, in Canada, averages about 10 spills per year and tar sands oil is nasty stuff to clean up. I do not wish unemployment on anyone, but if your job involves unnecessary environmental destruction and/or deaths it needs to be drastically changed or eliminated. Goodwyn is displaying his usual mindless knee jerking here.
Remember when the ugly stupid Trump admin put a tariff on solar panels because the lying snake oils man in chief wanted to sell “clean beautiful coal”?
Just imagine what will happen to Russia and the Saudis when free sunlight and wind outstrip the cost of oil. Creating an America with predominantly renewable energy will rob them of their oil profits – and the Saudis, in particular, have nothing else we need from them.

It’s Canadian shale oil. The dirtiest fuel on the planet and it doesn’t benefit the USA, it’s all for export. Nice try though.

Mr. Goodwyn, your bio says you skewer both sides. As an Independent, I am just not seeing it. Sorry.

The beneficiaries of this pipeline are China, India, and Canada. Tell me again why we care so much? Can’t be the 15 permanent jobs it creates.

Wasn’t the GOP touting our energy independence, and taking credit for it? We don’t need no stinkin’ murderin’ Saudis.

There already is a surplus of oil & gas in the U.S.; as well as in the world. Poor Al can’t really be this clueless.
