The problem is that the US is more like a cranky OLD Windows-95 machine than a modern OS with solid state drive: Resets, even when things are working well, take a really long time.

I heard the button to request a Diet Coke was removed, but didn’t know it was now a RESET button to deal with our neighbors. Heard Joe just pushed it. Hope it will erase the mistakes left in the past four years.

I run CNC milling Machines for a living most times when you have to hit reset its because you have screwed up , loose part, opening door , wrong program, etc. 99% of the time human error, just saying!

Funny, for years we were talking about resetting with Russia. We really just needed to reset ourselves. Maybe a better analogy is that we’re trying to do major repairs on a moving train.

Reset, not quite yet because Trump left a major upgrade to the operating system that needs to be installed: Impeachment 2.0

Unfortunately, as long as trump and his ilk are around they will not allow a reset.

Case in point, trump is issuing a warning that he will start a Third Maga Party if the Republican’s vote to convict him in the Senate trial of Impeachment.* A third party would be catastrophe in most places for Republican candidates, diluting the Right’s vote. The sad thing is, trump will never work for anyone but himself and a future of grifting money from the Right-Wing suckers.

Now you wonder why we should care if the Republicans destroy their own party? Its because the collateral damage they create will hurt the country and our various National institutions. President Biden is going to have a hard time rebuilding the various Department’s that trump tarnished and all but ruined such as the CDC and Justice Department, to name two. The reset that the country needs will be impossible as long as trump is given any window into the National conversation.

Fifty-nine years ago, a similar thing happened to the Republicans when the John Birch Society, a precursor to maga and qanon insanity threaten to take over the party. To their credit at the time, Republicans basically threw the Birchers out in 1965.** Lets hope that today’s real Republican party has the guts to finally tell trump once and for all what he really is, a totally disgraced failure with no future in Republican politics.

    Then the reset can begin.

We need a reset back to 1960, not 2016. When the corporate state was under some control and Democrats championed the working class from the New Deal.

Unfortunately the issues ain’t going away. Lack of vaccines and equipment to administer them. People and businesses in dire economic distress. Systemic racism and lack of social/economic justice. Climate. Broken alliances overseas. But at least we have a grown-up in the WH who recognizes them; hopefully Congress grows up and works with him.

Take something like a massive lobotomy campaign to reset America. Heck, you haven’t even managed to reset after that civil war you had some 160 years ago.

If only it were that easy. I’m reminded of an incident when I was a boy and wanted to do something and was told by my father I wasn’t quite old enough yet. I said something to the effect of “I wish I was grown up.” My dad smiled and said, “Oh, I wouldn’t worry about that, son. You’ll get that wish – like it or not.” That’s rather the problem with a digital age and instant gratification. I wonder if tomorrow’s cartoon will show the same map with bars “Loading” and “Installing: Please be Patient”?

Is that a Reset Kansas button? They have a start after dumping Sam Brownback, who nearly bankrupted the state and Jeff Colyer, but a lot of damage was done. One big problem is that Koch Industries is Kansas’ biggest employer, now that Boeing has left town.

Reset is a good idea, but as anyone knows wrt/ computers, if the problem is corruption of the on-disc code, it can make things worse rather than better. Rebooting the country will only have the desired effect if we scrub the gross falsehoods that have been spread throughout. Papering over them with niceties will just make it worse. The Republicans need to own up to that. I’m disgusted every time I hear the likes of Tom Cotton or LIndsey Grahm take umbrage at the suggestion that they needed to come clean to the parties failure at fundamental honesty.

So what has the RESET achieved? Very little as long as news coming from different sources is slanted in so many different ways on the same story. Tis better, but still so much division!

I switched from a Vic 20 (Commodore 64 lite) to an XP running MSDOS. And then through the Windows. Now I mostly do email and browse, so I am on to my second Chromebook and very happy with it. My use of swear words has decidedly declined over the years.
